We used to have both transformer rated and self contained A base meters around hear until 1956 .From there on we had ring style meter sockets and ringless. Now everything is ringless style where you pull the cover and then the meter. On 3 phase self contained starting in the late 60s they went with leaver bypass jaw clamping meter sockets up to 200 amps anything above that is a CT cabinet. On 1 phase 320 class it ringless leaver bypass jaw clamping. Anything above 400 amp is a CT cabinet in my area.
