it reminds me of the type of portable conveyors that depanneurs used to have for when the Beer and Cola etc trucks came. There was usually a window, or "door" just above the street that they used to put the conveyor out going to the truck and they would roll the cases down for storage in the basement. Same type system was also used to deliver coal to a lot of houses.

I always figured that those street level beer conveyors were coal chutes, since converted.
