Was there a corner mirror over the other side of the ceiling / wall junction ?
If so this might have been an un-restrained room.

No theres no mirrior inside,
I recently recived an email from a former member of staff who says that he used them while working there. I may email and ask if restraints were used. Its a freaky place though especially alone at night!

Sometimes there is a mirror over in the other corner (Way up out of patient reach) so that a member of staff looking in the slit at the front can locate the patient - and avoid being ambushed.
You didn't get them in rooms with restraints in use (normally) because the patient couldn't move to sneak up and pounce on you.
Excellent photos anyways!! Padded Cells are mostly totally missing from Scotland - they were not allowed for the most part, and places that DID have them (HartWood, Gartloch) had the areas containing them demolished. :-(
Now... Carstairs (Still active) has a whole wing full of them.... ;)
