World Trip 2002 - London

WhileI was in London Alex managed to arrange to show me the tunnels of an active mental asylum. It was pretty okay, with lost to see. The tunnels are not accessed any more and are in state of decay. It was quite strange wandering around these tunnels knowing that above us was an active mental asylum. I could imagine some derranged patients hiding away in the tunnels. But it was really quite unlikley. The best thing I saw was the really cool 'alien communication device' down in a long abandoned room.

Bugger!

Now that's what I call a plug. It is about as big as a football.

I think it's a device for communicating with aliens. Alex said it was a mercury inverter for converting high voltage AC to DC. You decide.

Water pumps.

Service tunnel.

Alex wasn't really disturbing it, just the sign attached to it.

Exhaust fans from a boiler direct warm air up into an abandoned greenhouse.

Boiler control panel

The mother of all backup generators. This baby was built in place as there's no way to get it out of the building now. The thing is fully 3 metres high, I would stand about level with the top of the engine case. God help you if you were standing in front of the cooling fans when it started up. That would be the end of you.

This looks almost like a control panel I saw in the old City Power Station.

Okay, um that's us isn't it.

Patient records were stored down here complete with nice x-ray images.

Records storage.
