Paris Catacombs
Le Cellar.
This room used to be used as a brewery at one stage. It contains a number of newer modern concrete pillars as well as the older ones. This room was one of my favorites. The entire room has some excellent artwork within it. Most of the art work has not yet been graffitied over either.
The entry into Le Cellar requires some tight crawling on hands and knees.
This is the size of the entrance into The Cellar. You can barely crawl in through there. Note the hand prints for scale.
Once inside you encounter some of the art work.
The most famous artwork here is the Chamber or the Egyptians
This picture, though poorly lit, shows the size of the Chamber of the Egyptians, just one part of The Cellar
The Chariot.
Egyptian Chariots in the Paris Catacombs
Detail of one of the pillars. These hold up the ground above The Cellar. I suspect they must each support several hundred tonnes.
Some of the amazing artwork that is down here.
Note the TIKI inspired critter on the lower right.
We sat down for a while to rest. Many rooms in the Catacombs have conveniently places rocks for seats.
This was a bit of a surreal place to rest and chat. But I really liked it in here.
Closer detail of one of the pillars. The Scarab type creature painted above was all over the Catacombs.
An amazing black and white painting of a soldier.
Aquarius and surrounds.
It is art, though unusual.
Every corner of The Cellar was filled with artwork.
I liked this one. Simple but appealing. There were many doorways and passages in The Cellar. Some lead places, some did not.
A moonlit swimming pool in the Paris Catacombs. Cool!
This is a cool section of The Cellar. There is places to sit and some cool graffiti. I like the sheriff and the monster.
