Paris Catacombs

One of the main passages north and south through the catacombs runs along under Ave General Leclerc. It is unpassable in places due to deep water. When we walked along the passage the cables were in the process of being removed from the Catacombs.

Rue Sophie Germain. Many passages were like this, a bit wide with pillars and stacked rock either side. Note the red line along the ceiling, a mark left by one of the earliest explorations of the Catacombs.

Looking south on Rue De Lots, back the way I had come. Note the hooks that once bore cables.

A water well within the Paris Catacombs. Unlike the one in the southern passage, this well was doing it's job of draining the catacombs.
