World Trip 2002 - Glasgow

London Road in Glasgow has a railway running beneath it. Many people are aware of this, but not so many people realise it runs beyond Bridgeton station, as far as Celtic Park, where there's a station and then to Parkhead. In addition, another two abandoned stations are along the in use line between Argyle and Bridgeton. I explored the London Road station, which was once part of Bridgeton station. Along with Botanic Gardens, London Road is one of the most beautiful abandoned stations I have seen.

Glasgow Green Station on London Road.

I am not sure of the significance of these dates shown on the back of the facade above.

The old platform is now much modified. The gap on the left was once the entrance to the platform. There is a big hole there now, which has tiled walls and gaps where stairs once were.

While it may look like an old entrance to a public toilet this is supposed to be the entrance to another old abandoned station on London road.

The London Road station at Bridgeton. It is right by an active station. View from embankment.

Someone, obviously tiered at waiting so long for a train has brought their own chair.

The station is much like I remember it in photographs even though I don't have copies of them.

What superb abandonment.

This has to be the most unusual graffiti I have seen anywhere.

Looking into the tunnel that continues on to Parkhead Stadium Station at the Celtic Football Club, a kilometer away. There is some information about it on this web site

You can see more pictures of the line on this web site.
You can read about the history of the lines on the Railscot Glasgow Central Railway page.
