World Trip 2002 - Fort Wayne

Day 11, 12 and 13

Fort Wayne allowed me time to catch up with myself and have a bit of a rest. Enos Shenk had nothing major planned, which was very cool with me. It was good to just decide what to do day by day. There was no pressure on time. We could do what we wanted. That was neat.

Enos introduced me to the sport of Geocaching. I thought it was really cool. The idea of heading out to explore and find things was great. Fort Wayne had a surprisingly large number of Geocaches in town. It was good to head out and locate them. In many ways it had a lot of parallels with Urban Exploration Exploring. It allowed us to get out there and see the city.

Fort Wayne was the sort of city I would not mind living in if I had to live in the United States. It isn't big, but that has it's advantages. Relatively low crime rate, not much air pollution. Pretty quiet really. I could get used to that. Still it was close enough to the big cities of Chicago, Detroit, Cincinnati and Indianapolis that you could do day trips to them. You could also consider week ender trips to Columbus or Cleveland.

The only real thing Urban Exploration related we explored was an abandoned station downtown. It was a bit unusual in that the old station building had been turned into a funeral home. But it was an easy exploration once a big piggyback freight train had gotten out of the way.

From Fort Wayne I caught the Greyhound south to Cincinnati.
