World Trip 2004 - Toronto
The first time I visited Toronto back in 2002 I missed out on the Don Valley Brick works by a few hundred metres. This time I was given a guided tour! This building in many ways reminds me of the abandoned brick works of my home towns. Very atmospheric.
Don Valley Brickworks Chimney. It is on a slight angle so work was done to help keep it upright.
Yeah, not the healthiest of places.
The side of the main shed.
Again the side of the main shed.
You have to pass by this giant Urban Explorer verification device before you can enter.
A superb photo of the interior of the Brickworks. This is what Urban Exploration is all about. Seeing what others do not get to see.
The green light really shows off these brick kilns.
Let there be light.
Urban explorer in motion.
Shades of stele.
The main hall.
Inside I recognized many familiar structures and those classic miniature railways.
This is a very complex building.
There are many holes in the roof of the building that let in plenty of light.
Rails and more rails
This would be one of the many brick kilns. Note it says "Harror" on the top.
Most unusual to name a brick kiln.
Down the other side of the kiln
Overview of the kilns.
Looking back down the main shed. This would have been a hive of activity when this place was in action.
Controls, valves, hoses.
One of the main firing tunnels
The other end of the Harror tunnel
I am not even sure what this machinery does, but it looks cool.
In a bit more detail There's some pretty impressive machinery there.
An old break out / toilet area. The walls have been smashed by vandals. The walls are also full of asbestos.
A bit more detail of the break out room.
Conveyor belt area.
The jumbled mess area
Time for a gratuitous self portrait with Ferret in the background.
Detail of this area taken in the evening.
An old Bakelight panel and a vacuum valve
Various control panels.
The same area another day in sunlight.
It looks like something just took a huge bite out of this area
Equipment and control panels up on the second level here.
E;electrical control circuitry and control devices.
Some one press go and see what happens.
Strange and unusual doors.
The roof area is in poor condition and covered in trees and grass.
Up on the roof I spot this ventilation fan.
Another vent fan
Strange machinery
Me on the dodgy walkway.
The dodgy walkway.
Self portrait. - Don Valley Brickworks - June 4 2004.
It's some way up here.
Looking down.
Nothing like a self portrait. This is just below the area where the walkway is.
Blueskunk and Ferret.
Equipment / tool room. Anything of value has been stolen.
Unrecognizable urban explorer. Well I know he is.
Last view of decay
