Buffalo NY - OPEX77

OPEX 77 was held in the city of Buffalo in New York state USA. This are was once the industrial heartland of the united States. Cheap power from the Niagara falls allowed a huge amount of industry to be created. The city of Buffalo once had a population of about 3 million. I understand that it now has just 1.3 million. So that means heaps of great abandonments!

Buffalo Central Terminal

We accessed this site with permission. The good old token Aussie talked our way in.

Buffalo Auditorium

This has to be one of the best sites I have ever seen. Pretty much one of the best UE explorations. I compared it to the Paris Catacombs in terms of impressiveness. Lots to see, lots to do and the huge vastness of the site.

Buffalo factory

This huge sprawling factory seemed to have been built in a a number of different sections over the years. It had some great vegetation growing on all sorts of levels as well as some extremely dodgy floors and roofs.

Hotel Buffalo

We came across this abandoned hotel complex on the way to the first OPEX meet up. It consisted of a number of buildings. It was obvious that some people were still living in it.

Orphanage

A large former German orphanage complex with some touching mementos for the former residents.

Crucifixion

An old abandoned church with not many years left in it. It was pretty sad to see this place going to ruin. Huge gaping holes in the roof and extensive water damage may see it collapse in a number of years.

Strippers factory

When we turned up to this factory strippers were already removing piping from it. I snapped a few shots of them and their car as well as video of them at work.

Missile silo

A small Nike missile complex. Flooded launch bunkers with cars and a nice complex still with electricity.
