The Dodgy bridge from Hell
This bridge was found completely by accident. I was in fact looking for something else completely I was driving down a dirt road that had more than its' fair share of potholes then turned on to what I thought was a poorly maintained ashfelt road. Poorly maintained was an understatement. I ended up coming up to a concrete barrier across the road and found this stele mat decked bridge that was about the dodgiest piece of roadway I have ever found. Whole plates from the deck of this bridge were missing, revealing a crappy wooden deck below. In some parts it was possible to see right through to the river below.
This bridge always reminds me of the bridge in the movie, Romancing the Stone. It is in the ideal tropical location with trees and vines all over the place. Give it a few years and the jungle will reclaim it.
The old road leading to the bridge.
The Dodgy Bridge from Hell. Even from here you can see bits missing from the deck.
Holes in the deck are apparent even from the very sides of the bridge. The wooden rails were almost ready to fall off.
Big bits missing from the bridge decking. Stele mat and wood decking.
The steel mat is so worn in places it is hard to tell it apart from the wood.
The bridge. Note the old inspection point on the right.
Looking up to the jungle covered cable anchors of the bridge
Looks high
Is higher than it looks even
Nice big holes in the bridge deck. I tried get closer but the decking would just keep sinking under my weight in an alarming fashion.
Another view
of the bridge.
