The Urban Adventure Site

Silos 27 October 2001

A former brewery site, The Silos has seen extensive demolition work, now just one building remains.

Part of the lower area of the silos.

Entry to the silos is simple, there's no fence around the access lane area, and the area fenced off has a huge hole in it. A small lane runs off of the road, right by the silos. The area is derelict, but there are signs of the occasional construction taking place with a ditch digger in the area once occupied by a building. There are a couple of wracked and abandoned cars on the land, including a burnt out Mercedes Benz.

A burnt out Mercedes sits at the base of the silos.

The silos themselves are the main building, you can access the old tower building from there also. Access to the silos is easy, there are open doors all over the place. Choose one and walk right in. The door closest to the road leads into the loading bay, and a stairwell up to the top of the silos. Beware of the lift well, some doors will open while others have been bashed open. There's no lift in the well. You have to head up the stairway inside the silos to get to the top, it's an easy haul though.

Yep, you go all the way up there!

The view from the top of the silos is stunning. You can see all the way to the Mountains in the west, to Mount Adventure in the north and UA City and bay in the east.

The view to the west of The Silos. The flats to the left is a housing commission block. The chimney is from the old brick works.

The view to the north over the flats and businesses of the city. The brewery chimney is in the center of the pic. Just visible in the center of the picture is a UA City Tate class train.

A massive panoramic shot of UA City is north eastern suburbs. The tower of the brewery is on the extreme left, hospitals in the middle distance on the left. The city is on the right. Visible is the city cathedral and other towers.
