The Rail Depot
This old railway parcels center is located in the heart of UA City. It has been abandoned for several years but owing to it being right across the road from many places which are well visited by the public, I never explored it. One night I though what the stuff, and just went in to explore it. A week later a friend and I went back to take more photos. Page 2 details some of the office areas.
The huge size of the main rail shed can easily be seen. It is at least 150 metres long and takes up an entire city block. This is the northern end
Looking down the side of the main shed towards UA City police headquarters
This shed was known as 'D Track' and was closed 13th June 1997
The southern end of the building with the clock tower on the right.
This picture taken about a third of the way up from the southern end gives and idea of the size of the place
The southern offices
Entry to the office area
Sadly some vandals have trashed it
Hundreds of letters and envelopes littered the floor
Looks like a bomb has come in through the ceiling
The Main Shed
Small foreman's office - note the bottle
The floor of that office, showing homeless person's clothing
Parcels sorting equipment - conveyor belt
Close up of the conveyor belt
Weir rocket nozzle like thing
Stuff found the next week on the rocket nozzle
This thing was a working cigarette lighter. We left it for it's owner to claim
I love these cool control panel things
The control panel from above, now closed. Reminds me of an airport x-ray machine
Small work office and 'Beware of forklifts' sign
Some of the interior of that office. Note the water bottles, used by homeless people
More of the little office area. Maybe a sorting area, maybe a drafting area.
A leaky pipe spreads water over the floor
Just outside of this shed is a large public car park
The debris pile
Part of the massive pile of clothing, shoes and debris at the northern end of the main shed
Some really weird stuff in this pile
Clothing, shoes and debris. The clothing and shoes were in okay condition
Charity collection tins
Wires and cabling
Poles, boxes, a table
A roller blade
A pile of shoes which has two roller blades in it
Desk, printer cover, draws
I can understand everything else, but how does this fit in?
At the northern end of the shed, a new sports stadium replaces the old rail tracks
