One day, a friend and I found that a grill that was normally locked, was unlocked that day. So we went down, and found our selves in a strangely familiar looking place.......
These images were taken using a Minolta 7000 camera mounted on a tripod using 3 to 15 second exposure times. Some images were lit by ambient light, some by 3 to 4 flashgun flashes, others by...... other means. This entire structure is underground.
Stairs and ladders
Some big pillar thing
7 second timed exposure - need more light, but shows roof in almost real colour
The pit of hell - lighting candles
You will need
to scroll to the right to see this image - a collage of 5 photographs.
Note the camera tripod for scale
Bonafide image
of a ghost I took. I can send copies of the original photo to anyone that
wants it.
This is NOT a modified image
Candles used to light up the structure. At this point, the automatic ventilation system switched on
A small volcano erupted, or perhaps it was just some sparklers.
Suddenly the chamber was filled with lightning!
It began to fill the area.
Lightning flew through the chamber
Lightning ascends the ladder
We had to take pictures of this all or no one would believe us :)
Red sky in the morning - shepherd's warning
Ahhh - Flameage!
At this point the ventilation system kicked into turbo mode
Nice candle lit center of the Deathstar
Needs more light
Hmm, the fires of hell
Really nice photo this
More Flameage!
The burning forest and lots of smoke. The ventilation system struggled with that for a while but the air quality remained good.
Last Flameage before going home.
Safety precautions and photo info.
Before risking our lives taking these photos, we knew that the Deathstar already had an automatic ventilation system and air sensors. We knew if the air in it got bad the ventilation system would turn on automatically. We also knew it had a low flow and high flow setting. Initially we set up the candles and waited for the low flow to kick in. Some time later, the turbo mode kicked in before we used the sparklers or fuel.
We also did not want to damage the structure, So we tested burning fuel on concrete above ground at another location. The fuel we used was relatively clean burning, and leaves no trace and does not damage the concrete. Fuel was laid in such a way as to not damage the structure or the art works within it.
Photos were taken over a 2-3 hour period during the evening of the day. Plenty of time was allowed, So that good photos could be obtained. Most exposure duration are at least 6 seconds. 2 rolls of 24 images were taken. Some look much like the others So only the best images are shown here.
The ghost photo really has not been retouched or modified in any way.
