Despite wandering around City College campus a fair bit ion search of steam tunnels I did not find this drain until recently. I always presumed there had to be one there, I had found small drains on campus. The land also sloped down on one side of the campus into a small valley, a sure sign of a drain. However, I had never found a big drain.

One day a friend pointed out that there was a "big pipe sticking out of the ground near the sports equipment by the lake." I went down to take a look, and sure enough it was a drain. It took me a while to find the entrance, but once there I was in like Flynn. The drain is a conventional RCP, somewhat boring. It was occupised by a friendly rat that convienetly stayed still just long enough to be photographed. The drain has a low section before it reaches the overflow room. Altogether it is a pretty plain drain apart from the overflow room, and a very odd barrier across the drain upstream of that.

The downstream entrance is in the industrial heartland

A bizare metal bar blocks off most of the drain.

Beyond it the drain continues on, I was surprised someone had explored it before

Ahh, the exit

Much graffiti adorsn the drain at the bottom of this pipe. It mentions the City College steam tunnels.
