Encinio Drains
There are about 4 drains in Encinio that are large enough to explore. There are the twin Nongedan Drains, Scout Killer, Blue Encinio and a short unnamed drain. In addition to this there is the Mad Max drain at Anaheim Park, on the way to Encinio.
Nongedan
This drain is probably the best known drain in Encinio. Though well known, it does not offer much to see, just a bland big round concrete pipe past the entrance. Just to the side of this drain is a smaller drain which features an interesting grille room. I think that is more interesting than the rest of Nongedan.
This drain was so named for an unfortunate scout who happened to fall into the drain and break his neck when it jammed between a grille and the drain wall. Since that time the Encenio City Council has securely bolted all of the grilles on the drain into place.
The drain is probably the second best one to explore in Encinio. This does not make it a good drain though. It is mediocre at best. Apart from the many grilles there is not much to see. It is however, spooky to explore, knowing that someone actually died in this drain.
The drain emerges into a creek, where exiting can be a bit hairy due to the depth of the water. The drain mouth comes out virtually in the middle of nowhere, the area being scheduled for an eventual freeway bypass. It is a pity that the drain will be eventually covered over, but at least a big new drain will have to be built where it meets the main creek.
Blue Encinio
This drain was named simply because there was graffiti at the entrance and a manhole exit that were both blue. The drain is not much. It is easy to explore once past the initial low bit in the entrance. There is a small side drain, and many easy to exit manholes, all of which are on footpaths or open grassland.
Unnamed Short
This drain is only a few minutes walk from Blue Encinio. It has no name. It is a short drain that has an inspiring entrance, but quickly gets low. While it is difficult to get into without getting wet feet, the grille above looks appealing, until it is discovered that it is bolted shut.
