Turntable
This turntable came as a complete surprise to me. I had not been expecting it. Nor had I been expecting the maintenance pit there. It was hidden behind some low bushes. When I saw the inspection pit I was excited and my heart was sent rushing. Then I saw the turntable and realized I had a real find. The setting of this piece of forgotten machinery was in a small glade of birch trees. Almost an enchanted scene.
The inspection pit with the small birch trees that hid the turntable.
I spotted the turntable! This is the first time I lay eyes on it.
Looking out across it I try fit as much of the turntable into the photo as I can.
Stepping out I notice the water below
It was made by
William Sellers and Co Corporation in Philadelphia.
I think the 55 to 83 means tonnes that it can carry.
A superb image. The turntable in all it's glory and the inspection pit beyond
Side view, a little off skew. The pit is partly filled with water
The ever present birch trees and the rail for turning the table
Detail of the turntable
One would expect
these wheels to run on the rail below. I found however that they were rolling
free, after I stepped on one and went sprawling onto the rails below when
it moved.
Lucky I was not hurt nor my camera damaged.
The lock on the turntable, note it is slightly askew.
