Be careful? I think if you have the NSA/CSIS/CSE/RCMP/FBI using equipment to detect the local oscillator in your scanner, then you are really really doing something wrong.

yeah, dug, but there are people out there who do stupid shit like trying scan MP/security and enter these kind of facilites, I just dont wanna see anyone go though that. a warning that a scanner is not "invisible" because its only a RX device. some people need to be warned about that risk.

Dude, its a risk that you need to be worried about UNLESS you are wanted by the CIA, MI6, etc. Like ExKa said, not even Canada possess the equipment to detect the ocal oscillator. There's only ONE agency in the world that has the equipment and its the NSA of my nation. And I've heard them only using it once.

And using a scanner to aid in committing a serious crime is against the law in all US and Canadian jurisdictions. So your warning is not needed.

BTW, can you tell us what radio you have?

the most useful of the standard radios imo is the IRIS, the Light Assault radio sucks balls and the AN/PRC-113 is okay I guess but there custom made ones by electronic techs for recce use/SOF use/EW use/and other things. they dont have a model or designation, its like an improvised explosive device, you dont call it a MK-82URV (under road version) its just a IED

not at any big installation with the equipment to pick up a singal that weak. we're gonna secure a check point in afghanistan for eg to that level so solder 1 radios soldier 5 "ima gonna pinch a loaf" az taliban suicide bomber knows he has to chance to get to the point and kill everyone.

but I wouldnt try to explore and tak pictures if dwyer hill using your scanner to hear us on local radios and thus try to guess when security wont see you.
places like that have around the facility things to listen to that kind of thing. then you have teams roaving on with no radio that are training at something, and you might get lucky tnough to bump in them.

Just stay away for secret or very off limits locations period.

most gov sites are fine. I'm talking places that kept secret and off limits to nearly everyone. usually special forces or intelligence agents with cryptograph production, complex crypo, advanced, that stuff, you stay away from, esp with scanner and a camera. ect. dont try using your scanner for that.

Where do I begin?

1) You are not with JTF2. You never were with any Canadian Forces of any kind. Please stop implying you were unless you can prove otherwise such as your tag number.
2) Your radio signal even at 1W can be heard from public property.
3) Canada follows the NATO standard of military radio allocations for interoperability.
4) I have monitored Groom Lake from public property among other secure facilites safely. I'm sure the FBI has a note on that in my file.
