| Indeed. Just laid down the hammer, re: DS. 20 minutes PER DAY. He can divide that time any which way he likes, but when the bell rings at 20 minutes, DS is gone until tomorrow. This is day one. We'll see what the dinner hour conversation is like. I'm guessing his mother is going to have something to say about MY new edict, but she only gets 5 minutes to speak each day, and she can divide that 5 minutes any which way she likes. After that, it's straight to the garage until tomorrow.

| | | Know why McGiver can deactivate a nuclear device with a paper clip, build a robot out of an old carburetor, jump-start an 18-wheeler with a shoelace, fix a delta-wing in mid-air with a stick of Wrigley's, reprogram a NASA satellite with digital wristwatch, save humanity with a smile...? He didn't wasted his childhood with DS. Was a time when my parents sent me outside to play with a piece of string, a block of wood, and a rusty nail, and I could be happy FOR HOURS.

| | | My cats love my DSi. But they get mad when I have to take it away because it's bedtime or dinnertime or bathtime. Final Fantasy: Echoes of Time is their favorite. But they're 6 and 7. (Multiply that by like 8 or 9 and you get middle aged adults) But seriously...I didn't get any of the really cool electronic toys until I was well into my 20's-30's, because I had to buy them myself. Parents certainly weren't gonna blow a couple grand on a pc or 3 or 400 bucks on an MP3 player. Not when we needed food and to pay the bills. Shael

| | | Posted by metawaffle Actually, some friends of mine did just that over Christmas - bought their daughter a DS, but threw it out when she behaved inexcusably.
| I threaten to sell my kids' stuff on eBay. And I'm just psycho enough to do it. But before school, there's no TV or video games. Get dressed, eat breakfast, get your stuff together, and that's it. No distractions. When you get home, homework and chores first, then entertainment. If they don't like it, then the entertainment gets taken away. I threatened to delete my youngest's saved games on the PS2, and he actually started crying. I think I found my secret weapon.
