No matter where you go, there you are...

| | | I suppose you want the why... i want something different. i've had nothing but Chevrolets since 1996. on top of that, yesterday morning, i got in my Cobalt, started the engine and was greeted a CHECK ENGINE light and the dreaded "ENG PWR REDUCED" message in the DIC. As I had 9000 errands to do before i had to go into work (early on top of that), i shut it off, climbed into the shaky trailer park racer and set off. I came home, called the dealership and headed there (13 miles over the mountain). ENG PWR REDUCED doesn't quite cover it! The PCM basically goes into limp mode (and I do mean flaccid) and cuts out the supercharger, goes to terribly conservative fuel and ignition map which makes you want to tear your hair out. So I get there, throw the Tech 2 on it and learn that what the issue is... there are two throttle position sensors on the engine. this throttle set-up is drive-by-wire, no mechanical linkage between pedal and throttle. So anyways, as the engine runs, the two sensors are constantly checking voltages. Well, one of them has checked out for lunch under operation. Now, you'd think that the simple solution would be to just change them out and be done with it. No no no... for warranty purposes, the tech must determine WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. If it's something unrelated to the engine, fuck you pay me... And the soonest that it can be officially shopified is tuesday the 26th so now I have a very expensive, pretty blue lawn ornament for 10 days. Now, the punchline to this is basically I probably caused all this chaos... day before yesterday, I gave the Cobalt the official it's spring! detailing and one of the things I like to do is open up the hood, put a big garbage bag over the engine and hose out the engine room, get all the dirt and salt out from the under the hood, inner fenders, subframe, the nooks and crannies... i'm thinking the bag not big enough or the hose spray not aimed enough or stray soap off the sponge... But back to the CR-Z... it's small, manual shift and good on gas. the thing I DON'T like is it's a hybrid. I was wishing that Honda would've made a straight gas version of this car. Oh, for $6500, they even have a Mugen package for it. GM doesn't make a small coupe anymore. Ford doesn't offer the Fiesta in a coupe the Focus would only appeal to me in a Euro-spec RS trim (which will never make it here I'm sure) and the only other Japanese manufacturer I looked at was Subaru, but they too don't make a coupe. So there you have it.

| | | Not many companies make small coupes anymore. There's the Scion TC, but that thing is horrible. I'd rather be fucked by a goat than drive a TC. Chryco doesn't have one, save for the Fiat, which I say is too small for you. Same for the Mini. Mazda has the NC Miata and RX8, but those might be stupid crazy on insurance. Kia has the Forte Koup, and I think it's available with a turbo and a 6 speed these days. Hyundai has the Genesis Coupe, which I really like, but now we're climbing way up the price ladder. For a sport compact, the only thing left on the market now is the CRZ. Now, if you're looking for a 5 door, I'd go with a Mazdaspeed3. Same price as the CRZ and will walk all over the SC Cobalt, no offense intended. Damn fast cars for $23,000.
