I had high hopes for the CR-Z, but after reading Car & Driver's road test of it, it seems disappointing. And I'm with Sam, it would be nice if they made a straight gasoline version.

But still, for the needs and wants you described, seems to fit the bill. Hope it works out well for you, sorry to hear about the Cobalt.

GRM gave the CRZ positive reviews, comparing it favorably to the Mazda2 and the Mini Cooper. It posted times around a test trace within .03 seconds of an unmolested 1988 CRX Si.

The one I drove was a CVT model and it felt very nice for it being a CVT. I'm usually one of the biggest complainers of CVT cars, and it felt decent to me. I think a manual would make that car as perfect as you're going to get for a 2 door sport compact today.

if the car came as a straight gasoline version, that would fantastic, but a high-mileage owner, the hybrid side of the system scares me... warranty only goes so far and in four or five years, I'll have put over 120,000 miles on the car.

I have to ask Sam, are you so far upside down on the Cobalt you can't sell it out right, drive the 'retta for a bit and get an older Z24 Cavi? Or do you have to get a new car to dig out of the new car hole a little bit?

See it and have been in it. My solution was to let my ex borrow my ZX2. She totaled it into a light pole. It wasn't a plan, but it just worked out that way.

Yeah, ya gonna have to get new sadly. And with that much upside down, its gonna have to be a $20+ vehicle to get out of it really. I'm gonna suggest something your not gonna like but it would be a smart way to get out in a few years, and its not just because of what I like. Trade it in on a new Jeep Wrangler. They hold their value very well, and you can hide that much negative in the price. You can get back out of it after 3 years or so. You won't have lost as much value. But I know your not really a fan lol. Otherwise another easy way out is to find the shortest lease term you can, trade in on it if they will, and dont drive it much. That should get you out in 24-36 months. I wish you the best luck. Its just hard to find something that doesn't lose a lot of value quick that is in the 20-30k range and the new Wranglers tend to hold it well. Ya know lol.

A 3 year old Wrangler is worth about 90% of its new value. Craziness.

I do have a feeling the CRZ will hold value pretty well, too. It's a hybrid and it's a Honda.

Went and looked at the car in person on Friday (and to see if i would FIT in it). I really liked the car. The dashboard was like something you'd expect to see in X-wing fighter, seats were comfy, steering wheel was infinitely adjustable and I fit it in. I didn't drive it, though, because if I drove it, I probably would want it. I just keep coming back to the hybrid part of it and I brought my concerns up to the salesperson... the hybrid part of the drive is covered for 15 years or 150,000 miles which does calm my jitters about it. The sticker was a little more than I wanted to pay, but it is a hybrid and it was nicely equipped... if i did get one, I would want a few more options and definitely not in white. I was thinking that nice blue or maybe red.

so overall, i do like the car. I like that it's a true two-seater.

I think blue looks about the best on that car.

There are Honda Insights running around with 10 year old packs that work just fine. I fully expect the CRZ to be similar in reliability.

Not only is sit slow as fuck (contrary to their marketing), but gets less than 40mpg. The original Insight, and the new one, both do 55-70mpg with their manual versions.

I think its really silly to see hybrid mpg's going down as the technology "improves"

i wasn't looking at it for the mileage... I was looking for a zippy two-seater... apparently, Honda left out the zippy part.

still a neat looking car.

back earlier this year my friend was in the same boat as you, his dealer after dropping the car off allowed him to buy it back as a optimum used. Will the dealer let you come buy it off the lot?
