Having your introductory photo be a picture of yourself with a knife (which would be considered a dangerous weapon if you were caught trespassing and could likely raise your charge from a $65 trespassing ticket) probably wasn't a good idea...

As of 2010 if convicted you could face fines up to $2000...however it also states that first time would be a lot less.

First time is a fine between 0 and 500$, I believe. Plus, you get a court-date automatically. No shoving a cheque in the mail. More steps, more ways for them to pay themselves.

Are you able to post a link to the regulations which lay that out? The link that Intrinsic posted still shows the $50 fine (plus $15 victim fund surcharge). If they're hitting you with a $0-500+ fine it must be under some different piece of legislation. A municipal bylaw perhaps? I've still yet to actually get myself a ticket, but if the laws have changed it would be very handy to know. We'll update the guide with any new info that's brought to light.

Many Provincial Offences have undergone revisions (eg. handheld devices) and increased fines. The TPA however hasn't been revised since 2000 and as you can see, the chief justice of the Ontario Court of Justice has set the fine at $50.
As far as I know nothing's changed - so the Trespass FAQ remains unchanged. If it comes to light that someone receives a $2000 fine, I'll gladly update it with the details - and probably find a different hobby

What most likely happened is someone got slapped with a municipal bylaw ticket in addition to the TPA charge. The city of Toronto (or any other city) could very well have something on their books relating to trespassing, which likely carries a much heftier fine.
If you happen to come across whoever told you about the big fine, it would be hugely beneficial to the community if they could give some info or tell their story. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this were 100% true, although I'm glad it appears to be the exception, and not the rule.

Looks like Matt is too cool for us, guys. He has moved onto posting solely in the photography forum and hasn't even bothered to thank us for welcoming him... Hmph.

But hey, welcome to UER.
This photo wasn't taken in a building while trespassing, it was taken outside under a light. Thank you for the info/concern and the welcome!
