Ask me about my coupling equipment!

| | | Everyone forgets that this isn't painted for the current president, George W Bush. And anyways, what would you be driven to do? I assume since that you are in this forum, that you are a railfan, and any good railfan respects railway companies and their equipment. Railfans are a benefit to the railroads, and some railroads are beginning to notice that we are there to watch and help if we spot something odd. We don't need to cause the problems! You've got to admit, it's pretty neat that UP has done this and their heritage locomotives. While the heritage ACe's have the purpose of protecting copyrights (preserving heritage, UP? Hah! ) but it does add some colour to the huge yellow roster. I also dislike calling them heritage, they look nothing like the original schemes. But, it's better than nothing, and in the end, it gives us railfans seven new, rare locomotives to find, photograph, and watch!

| I am a railfan in the sense that I like passenger trains, like to ride trains (I am currently boycotting the airlines for all domestic travel and even international travel when possible), played with model trains when I was a kid (and would still now, if I had the time to devote to such a consuming hobby) and so on. I dont get all warm and fuzzy over the equiptment like some rail fans do, although I do find it interesting to look at sometimes, especially the abandoned yards. I was in no way implying that I would deface it or cause damage to it, though I might be tempted to vomit. desecrating a locomotive in that manner by putting a design on it "honoring" him (either of them, they were BOTH just as bad as the other) is absolutely disgusting as far as I am concered. Neat is not a word I'd use to describe this paticular one. Usually companies have enough sense not to mix politics with business in this manner, I am sort of surprised that they did this. especially given the fact that Bush is such an enemy of passenger rail.

| | | Its more like CN and CP buying up parts of several US railroads actually. CN even tried to merge with BNSF once. | Yeah, I'm familiar with the proposed BNSF/CN merger. If CP was to merge with any other class 1 railway, it would most likely be a takeover by Union Pacific. I certainly hope CP doesn't merge, and it doesn't sound like the current CEO want's a merger to happen, either. Here's an interesting link: http://www.trains....lt.aspx?c=ss&id=19 It's outdated, though. CN, for example, has acquired a few lines since. Regarding their slogans, I think UP's most current one is "Building America". played with model trains when I was a kid (and would still now, if I had the time to devote to such a consuming hobby) | Time and money, my friend! Very expensive but very fun. Nothing wrong with vomiting over it! I do agree with your comments on the Bush family. I'm not much into politics, let alone American politics, and I do agree that it was an odd move by UP. Just that fact that UP is doing special locomotives at all is neat to me. If I saw UP 4141, I'd still take a photo.

| | | Posted by Agent Skelly UP had a funny slogan awhile back, something like "We've been on-line since 1868!"
| UP "Uncle Pete" "Utterly Pathetic" "Universal Problem" "Uncoordinated Peasants" I could go on - all except the first one borrowed from BNSF train crews that have to operate over UP on trackage rights.

| Very expensive is right! Shoot, the HO stuff is up there now. There used to be a mega catalog you could get from a company called RR Walters or something like that, out of WI if I recall. It was like two inches thick and they charged you like $35 for it, it had prolly every HO item ever made, as a kid, I used to sit and dream about the huge amount of stuff I'd buy out of there if I ever hit the lottery... and it would pretty much take a lottery hit at the prices back then and today... shoot... OK, OK, OK! You got me. Its neat that they are doing special ones. And it is a pretty decent paint job. I just think there are alot more people worth dedicating one to.
