| | | I volunteer my time at the local humane society... once in a while, I'll even go out and buy supplies that are much needed by the humane society (food, toys, litter, etc.) instead of just handing them money. I know that money donated goes mostly toward vet bills and the cost of rent/hydro/heat bills and that a good sum of money goes to pay employees who are there to help the animals (vets, vet techs, etc.). They aren't parasitic... I know that not all money goes towards the animals, but at least most of it does. But yea, if you still don't trust charities/non-profit organizations, then just donate your time.

| That's even better in many ways. The extra hands are always a great help and hey, you and some critter may get lucky through a rescue. Way to go! Also, when the money goes towards the expenses you named, then it has done the job you want it to do. At least the animals will be cared for. I remember years ago when I volunteered at a sanctuary for exotic animals. Memories and one hell of a learning experience for me. A previous summer, I volunteered at a school for mentally handicapped children. Another set of memories and another learning experience. I benefitted from these places. I donated time and got back a very generous donation from those folks.

Please no March of Dimes. They support insane research. They funded a "study" that involved freezing ferrets, baby ferrets, alive. To study their brains. I'm sorry but there is nothing they learned from that study to warrant the suffering of the ferrets caused by being put in a freezer. I read the papers on what they wanted to "discover" and they didn't discover shit. I hope all animal abusers go to hell. And yes, I've worked in a lab before. I support REAL research with guidelines on animal pain control, limits, and real results. L
| Well I guess they could use humans; someone or something, but many times a living (animal) is needed. Would you prefer to see die love ones die because a vaccine wasn't developed or tested properly? These isn't a clear cut issue, and seeing that I ate beef for diner, I'm not going to be a hypocrite. Many would be dead or crippled right now if not for the deaths countless test animals as would many others. I would prefer higher lifeforms not be used. Or that endanger wild species be hunted like the whale. At least the test animals aren't wild, or in danger of extinction. Life is full of tough choices sorry to say. Welcome to the _ planet... We are the worst species here; be glad it's not humans they're freezing... this time. Not to be rude but organizations like PETA have killed thousands of test animals(they needed to be destroyed as they were infected or not usable as pets, dah) and destroyed research data that would have saved lives from terrible diseases. PETA is a parasitic organization as it serves humans no useful purpose, and has caused a huge amount of harm. Lab animals and food stock were raised to be slaughtered. It's that simple. Maybe grizzly bears should start an organization to stop the use of the wild salmon. Countless bears would died, but the salmon would live a little longer. Peta's next project no doubt as then expand their insanity.

| | | Actually, I'd rather have human testing. It's better to test on humans as the animals they use aren't that close to our bodies anyways and often produce skewed results. And anyways, results are tweaked until they give the results the experimenters want anyways. Wasn't it Gene Hackman in Extreme Measures who told the doctor played by Hugh Grant regarding testing on humans, "if you could save one child, wouldn't you have to do that?" (or words to that effect). In the movie, Hackman secretly tested on homeless and mentally challenged people "that wouldn't be missed" yet whose sacrifice would yield great scientific advances. But, however, individual rights must prevail. If one person must die to cure cancer, then we must find another way...

| Well during WW2 that's exactly what the Germans and Japanese did. The German did freeze, and drown prisoners to death, to see what the level of human endurance was... One jap doc who wasn't tried as a war criminal, used that data to help start a post war blood plasma company. He did quit well. Many of his countryman died in his experiments. Not acceptable. I don't have any problems with butchering animals raised as food or as labs animals. Get a grip. Even vegetarians kill plants to survive. That's what it's about too; something dies so you can live. Those canines in your jaw say all that needs to be said!

| | | Posted by vicexsquad Animals were never born to be lab experiments! They existed to be pets and some to be farm animals/food. The only reason why lab animals became lab animals is because they are the easiest target to use. Animals can't really defend themselves against lab testing and they don't really have any say in anything because they don't speak or communicate in ways we can really understand! Animal rights bills were passed as far back as 1876 and I think that back in that day, man didn't have the balls to use other humans as testing subjects because well, they were humans. I'm so sick and tired of humans being so god damn selfish when it comes to testing. If it's supposed to benefit humans or be used by humans, test on humans! Especially when it comes to cosmetics and things like that.
| Food or lab, same-same. They should be treat as well as possible... Your dead wrong on the experiments. A complete living specimen is the only way many can be done. Example: Would you prefer a neurosurgeon learn his craft on a human loved one or a lab rat? Get real!
