Shania Fucking Twain. She sets new records for monotonous wretchedness everytime i hear one of her pathetic excuses for a song. As if her bile-inducing voice weren't enough, her band seems to always be playing in that very same limited tonal range. Without her husband's marketing brilliance, she'd be serving coffee in some shit-hole diner in Timmins, Ontario. With it, she's serving up an attack of droning noise to make the entire world cringe. Bleach!

Then there's the whole "pa-rum-pa-pa-pum" of Christmas music. I'm sorry. I know, it's only October. I apologize for bringing that up. Already I feel like going "shopping" at the local megamall. With an Uzi in one hand, and another Uzi in the other. Grrrr! Couldn't we have just one year without Christmas?

oh and personally i don't think of shania as country music, or any of that other new country shit. It's just country-pop. bleh. I used to have to listen to it all day long when i worked at a garage. eventually i just learned to tune it out.

Although I agree with you people with the hating of the pop-punk-emo bullshit, I have to say that my top spot for my most hated musician has to be Bruce Springsteen. GOD, I hate that guy soooo much. He really needs to hurry up and die.

If my demands are not met, I start executing reindeer once every half an hour. If my demands have still not reached an accomodation, I start executing elves, once every fifteen minutes. At such point that all means of negotiations have failed and my demands are still not satisfied, I CAP THE FAT MAN AND NO ONE GETS CHRISTMAS!!!

I got thrown out of a mall for yelling this out as I walked past the mall santa thing in Plattsburgh NY when I was a sophomore in high school. I have never had so difficult a time trying not to laugh while acting outraged in my life!!!

I'm glad I have grown up some since then.

I do not mean this in a bad way at all, but I think your dislike for Jazz is a result of ignorance. If you were to take a Jazz History course or something or learn a little bit about the music, I'm sure you'd have a bit more appreciation for it. ... But kudos on the hatred of "pop"/rap music ;)

Lots of people don't realize that ANY music which is widely is considered "pop" music.

So, what DO you like? Nirvana? Old Metallica? NIN? Deftones? Pumpkins?

I don't really think that's much of a valid argument. I've listened to a lot of jazz: live, vinyl, cd, whatever, old and new. And no matter how much I listen to it, I still don't like it. Music taste is pretty much like anything else: a matter of opinion. I took classical guitar lessons for years but it'd take you with a gun to my head to get me to listen to a classical guitar album.

Drie said she hates the Beatles, which happens to be my favorite band of all time, but I'm not going to recomend she start watching documentaries and reading bios of them to give her an appreciation and therefore start liking them. Instead I'll hate her forever with my little black heart.

Perhaps I have this stance because I try to appreciate music in the context in which it occurs. And I look at jazz musicians, and how they are the most established of any other, and the changes that individuals have made, the pioneers ... I mean, most rock musicians, etc., right now, can not even record their own music on paper. Or if you pay attention to a LOT of (for example) guitar players in rock bands, you'll notice that their chord progressions and style evolve DRASTICALLY over time. A very large portion of them will learn those first 7 essential notes, and start playing from there --- they just want to be in a band, whatever. Whereas jazz ... it is about expression, and the evolution of jazz (From african+european music to blues New Orleans/Chicago to New York to ragtime to swing to avant-garde to bop to hard bop to modern ...) Jazz is so complicated, it is so complex ....

To say one simply dislikes "jazz" is a very ignorant way to put it-- jazz is so complex, so DIVERSE, that it can not be defined.

You would not have any modern rock if there were no jazz. Or rap, country, hip-hop, fusion, etc. You don't appreciate it even for that?

There is no one set definition of jazz ---- and "live, vinyl, cd, whatever, old and new" are NOT types of jazz.
