Edit: Signs are not pointing to a happy ending. A 1992 dodge spirit turbo in fair condition blue books for $900. Mine's a 91. I bet anything they total it. In that case, I'll get what, $700 bucks, and the chance to spend most of it buying my broken car back with a salvage title?

The fact I still owe $4000 against the car's title is really brutal awful.

You never know. When I got smashed out on the highway, I thought for sure my car was going to be totalled by my insurance company, especially since the visible damage was higher than the blue book value.

Insurance paid to fix it because they looked at what a similar car would fetch in a private sale rather than using the blue book. Sometimes you just get lucky like that - especially when the damage ranks in at $8000.

Well they totaled it, and refused to offer me anymore than $1200. So now we're going through our insurance company's uninsured motorist, and i should get at least $2500. Since we're going through our insurance company now, State farm is junking the car tomorrow, and has already arranged for pickup, without my authorization. So I'm kinda fucked. The money will be going to my loan to release the title, and I'm gonna end this still $2k in debt with no car. Hoping the bank lets me borrow more but it won't be enough for anything cool. At least it might have AC lol.

It sucks that they totaled your car over, essentially, a wrinkled fender. I hate how insurance companies operate. and after all that work! I feel for you, man. Good on you for chasing down the asshole that hit you and not letting him get away with it, though.

Well there's more than the fender. The car left a pool of oil and antifreeze under it when it was towed. I went to pull the plates today. I was hoping to start it one last time, but I got to the dealership to find my windows down, the trunk open, and the battery dead. The interior was soaked from a rainstorm. It's baffling the lack of fucking respect for other people's property at this dealership.

On another note, My fucking dream car showed up for sale for $3600.

first off, that fucking sucks that your car is gone! I'm very sorry for your loss.

Next thing, i don't like the wheels on that shelby or the ebay steering wheel.
the Shelby Daytona was one of the few cars that had very nice looking wheels right from the factory.

Basically everything you said, that really sucks about the Spirit.

That Daytona needs "snowflake" wheels or whatever they were called. And the $30 Grant wheel is greasy.

Are those seats from a 1st gen? I've never seen a second gen with that upholstery.

That's not a $30 grant wheel. It's from an 1984 daytona. Also yeah good eye. That interior is the rare houndstooth interior, also from an 84 daytona. I'm hoping I can get a loan sufficient for this car. The guy that built it is a Cincinnati local, and really knows his shit when it comes to cars. I met him 5 years ago when he brought this car to Turbopalooza. It ran 12s all day. I just worry about the meth injection and my ability to maintain such a system I know jack shit about.

i have never seen a steering wheel like that in a Daytona. I stand corrected. My 86 Turbo Z had a fugly steering wheel, ironically the same one that was in my 86 600.

I couldn't get something "normal." I'm familiar with these cars, so I'm gonna get something with the K engine again. I'm still looking for other options, but I'm definitely paying attention to this one. It's honestly not that much more ridiculous of a car than my Spirit was, and is in far better condition. I'm planning on buying the spirit back salvage, so I'll have an entire arsenal of spare parts in that i could reasonably make the car a bit less ridiculous, or be ready for when shit hits the fan. I've been in love with this car since I first saw it 4 years ago, and you don't get too many opportunities to buy your dream car.

I'm at least gonna go check it out.

It's like dodge wanted to be a Kia, so they just kept the vowel sounds and changed some consonants. How the fuck could you call that an upgrade?

Ok the neon...... I think there kind of crappy, though everything that's cheap econobox throw away car is kind of crappy. But in my opinion the neon was better than a cavalier, escort, Etc. And they sold a SHITLOAD of them so I would say they were a success.

Oh shit... seeing the detailed shot of the wheel, I just realized it's the one I swapped into my '85 Laser from a wrecked '84 Z.

It looked like this in the ad on my phone!

My mistake!

Edit: Also, that dashboard shot nearly brings tears to my eyes

Two cars I would love to own again. Sadly I found them both in a scrapyard after the guy I sold them to destroyed them both.

The one on the left was ridiculous, 2.2 turbo with a Direct Connection cam, cylinder head with so much material taken off it made the thing into an interference engine, Accel ignition, Caravan brake swap, 2.5" exhaust all the way back and I forget the rest. It's been a long time. This thing used to murder clutches, driveaxles and 2nd gears. I got it before I could drive, and would spend half of my weekly pay on performance parts until I finally had it on the road 2 years later. (By the time I had my license, this thing was so deep into the build I had to buy the blue one to drive in the mean time.)

The one on the right was basically stock, but damn she was reliable and pretty.

my 91 2.2L Cavalier RS would own my friend's 98 Neon R/T coupe all day long.
and my heater would warm both sides of the car...
my check engine light didn't come on FOUR MILES FROM THE FUCKING DEALER!

Neons were shit.
But, with that said, they would take a fantastic beating.
