Yeah that's actually kinda cheap if it's in as good a shape as it seems. Those cars were a nice footnote in nascar history.

not only is it a Monte Carlo SS, it's an AEROCOUPE!
didn't you see that BIG FAT rear window that weighed 400lbs?

if the frame was solid, it's worth $5k.

Oh shit, it is an Aerocoupe! I missed that.

Yeah, the rear frame rail rot those things suffered was brutal! I ran a 2 door Regal as a dirt track car for a while and thought I lost my rear bumper during a heat. Nope. It was the rear bumper and 2.5' of frame on either side!

My '81 Monte would make two thumps going over bigger bumps. One was the actual bump, the other was the rear portion of the body landing back down on the frame.

usually the main rot was relegated to where the frame kicked up over the rear axle as no one ever hosed them out. Another nasty place for rot on these and the bigger cars was where the control arms bolted to the frame up front. The frame itself would rot and all the force from the suspension working would translate into that weak spot and SNAP! Car is nose first on the road. GM actually put holes in the frame so one could stuff a pressure washer wand into the frame to remove the salt and sand from inside it. Sadly, no one ever did it and the cars are an endangered species.
I know... I had a 1981 Regal coupe with the never peppy 3.8L Buick V6. I've seen mold that had more get up and go than that engine.

Most of the ones here are flat black or primer on IROC wheels with dual (uneven) straight pipes out the back, bubble tint, and an owner with a mullet.

sorry, but most the time, they don't... when you get smoked in your Monte Carlo by a 14 year old Dodge Daytona Turbo Z, your car is poo.

Same. Out of all my Daytonas, my favorite was an N/A '85 Laser that pushing some insane power. Built an engine for it before I could drive with basically anything I could get from the Direct Connection catalog. Never dyno'd it but after my 4th starter in two months because the compression was so high, I started using the Denso gear reduction ones. Used to break CV joints religiously and destroy engine mounts.

Fuck it was fun. Embarrassed many a V8 with that thing.

(And yeah... I had a pretty tidy and well maintained 80's Cutlass 442 in the shop when I worked at GM, and that thing was about as rev happy as a can opener... a K Car would have given it a good run)

The silver one was the silly fast one. Blue one was just a 2.5 base model, but was a really reliable car.

this was the car... a 1986 Daytona Turbo Z that ran well when it felt like it. 154,000 miles, automatic transmission. The vacuum lines from the block on the fenderwell to the turbo were cracked and leaked, so it ran spotty. When it DID run, it would scoot along really well. When it DIDN'T run well, I could take a hammer to the thing. But the damn body was SOLID... which was a crying shame because these things didn't last in the Northeast.

This was the car I ran a V8 Monte Carlo down US 27 near Whites Creek TN at 1am and actually was winning until a Roane County sheriff stopped me.

My last daytona was an 89 shelby with a turbo 2 and a dodge ram cummins front mount intercooler. It was so large it filled the whole front end and the flip up headlights had to be fixed in the up position because the motors had to be removed to fit the intercooler.
