| | | Posted by Samurai update to the Beetle epic... i posted this in the Other forum yesterday in the thread relating to someone looking for a new car. Figured it should go here as a fitting epilogue to this epic. I edited for time and content adding a little more detail here. I stopped at Garvey Volkswagen in Glens Falls NY tuesday afternoon. They had only TWO Beetles on the lot, the rest were Jettas and Passats. One Beetle was a black convertible with an automatic. The other was this awful baby blue entry coupe... with an automatic. I spoke with the salesman about getting the one I was interested in. The salesman, who was a colossal douche, kept trying to sell me a Kia Forte and didn't not want to get on his computer to find a reef blue sporty Beetle. Apparently, those are the only two Beetles left in the known universe. (eyeroll) In retrospect, I probably should've talked to the manager, but I was pretty worked up over the whole thing. I don't remember car salesmen being this big of a douche. So, no, I'll be staying with my paint-challenged Chevrolet.

| | | ok... had a doctors appntment on wednesday, so I ended up driving the car today... it was a Volkswagen Beetle 1.8L-turbo in Denim Blue. things I liked... the car was roomy, the colored bits on the dash and steering column were a nice touch, seats were comfortable and really held you in them. Gauges were easy to read. The engine seems competent, but wasn't as gutsy as I had hoped for. I chalk that up to having only 32 miles on the odometer. The gearbox seemed a little vague, but this is not an R-Line or GSR. The A/C was quick to cool the car down as well, even at 92F ambient with 90% humidity. Things I did not like... The color. It's way too girly for me, but was the only one of the hardtops with a manual shift. I also didn't like that it was only a 5speed. Also, the Beetle is not available with a sunroof which chaps my ass. It also does not have a USB port (which my Cruze does) and didn't come with a wing (shut up- like it) or aluminum wheels. I have to call the salesman back on Monday afternoon to see if he found a Reef Blue 1.8L T with the options I want. If so, then we'll talk numbers. Any input? Feedback? Basically, I am looking at Bandi for insight on reliability issues regarding these cars. It seems everyone you talk to has an opinion on Volkswagen. I want facts. Other than that, it seemed like an enjoyable car. Oh and is there is aftermarket for that engine?
