Except the TDI has the largest/heavier duty springs out of all of the mk4s doesn't it? So I'm not sure what springs/struts I would use.

MetalNerd makes a proper lift kit.

TDI springs were no different, but the wagon had the beefiest rear springs/VR6 had the beefiest front springs.

I think Tiguan springs will work in the back... I'll know for sure in a couple weeks.

HR makes a lift spring for tiguan, and its essentially the same as all MK5/6/b6/b7 just the rear is slightly different for the 4 motion.

I installed one once for a client with some jeep wheels.......

Ahh, maybe one day. I think after the light bar is done, I should do the bodywork I need to since I'm sick of looking at the front of my car the way it is, and I'm going to lose my rear 1/4 panel entirely pretty soon.

(but that means more welding! Yay! It's probably one of my favourite things. Also bodywork is relaxing.)

Time for Bondo Betty to come out of the shadows

So did you find the "smell?" , I bet it will be "find the rattle" in about a month.

Oddly, no. It was definitely there when the car was started, and like something rotting...but would dissipate after a while, so my suspicion was that heat sink would allow it to stew, and then when the customer would get in the vehicle, he would be blasted with it. So something had to be sitting in the HVAC system somewhere. But I couldn't find anything, and the smell seemed to be gone after many tests....letting it run for a while, then restarting, cold start, etc etc. Couldn't smell it after I had the vehicle apart. Nothing under the hood, rain cowl, nothing I could find in the vehicle...except a loonie in the vent, haha.

The smell hasn't come back....so unless I missed something flying out when I blew out the vents and heater box, I've got nothing. Frustrating!

I forgot how much I enjoy body work. I find it quite relaxing. Plus I got to do some welding, which is just awesome

Also got the wagon all ready for summer and gave it a bunch of love at work earlier. I even cleaned the skid plate off, as it had an interesting buildup of mung (and a bonus random gasket, from the vac reservoir I think)

So, have to finish the light bar, finish the hood, get my new doors on, repair the rear 1/4 panel, redo a couple of the pillars I've covered in tartan, and the wagon will be all ready for show season

Thank you!

I've only done bodywork a handful of times, and it's usually a year or two in between, but I ended up taking an evening body work course last winter which gave me a bit of a better understanding of the process - although I've found the body filler part more of an intuitive rather than a scientific process. I find it really calming to chill with some tunes, a bucket of bondo, sandpaper....and of course the welder. Now that I've gotten more experience with welding, I'm very thoroughly enjoying it and want to tackle making my own boser hood eventually.

I'm hoping to take on some of my dad's project cars after I finish my Jetta because I just enjoy this stuff. The red 16v Scirocco definitely needs some bodywork!

my father never had any formal training doing bodywork, it was just something he had a knack for. Couple that to his patience and obsessiveness towards perfection, he produced cars that were the rivals if not better than the product of bodyshops here. And then there was his paint mixing ability... One week he decided he didn't like the color of his 83 Granada. It was this horrible silver color. So, he started gathering paint dregs from around the garage, you know, leftover paint from different projects, and mixed this beautiful shade of blue. I wish I had pics of this blue... It was show car gorgeous... On an 83 Granada (eyeroll). I watched him rebuild a 78 Firebird that should've been scrapped. The 79 Thunderbird he and my brother built was made from two cars that should've probably been scrapped. It's only in the recent years he has walked away from a challenge (He is 66) in the 54 Mercury Monterey sport coupe he just sold. Dad once told me that 95% of bodywork is in the fingers. I've always wondered about that.

Sorry for the rambling.

It's definitely in the fingers, and sadly, my sense of touch is worse than my eyes and my sense of smell... That's pretty fucking bad.

My projects are the typical 52,000 aircooled VWs on the go at the same time. Actually, I'm just focusing on my '83 Beetle right now, and just welded together a super cool body-dolly/jig for removing the body from the floorpan to replace heater channels, but still keeping the body mobile and rigid at the same time.

And on Saturday I rescued this poor little fella.

It's my favourite year of Beetle ('63), and was originally the colour I'd like to own a '63 in (L87, pearl white). But sadly, the car is beyond fucked. The paint is structural. It was like trying to pull Jello onto a trailer. The door gap grew about an inch on the 15 minute flatbed ride home.

It was free and has a ton of great small parts, but I feel sorry for it and kind of just want to leave it together and let it be.

Yes I am insane.

When I did that course last year, we spend many hours touching our work after we had decided we finished. Your fingers can feel imperfections that your eye can't see - such as a slightly low spot with your body filler. If you leave the low spot, it'll sink in more overtime, and become glaringly obvious once you paint.

So you can bet I've been feeling my hood up all weekend ;)

But I think the tactile side of it is what makes it so appealing - my formal education is all in the Arts.

The interesting part will be seeing how I do with paint! Gotta build myself a little paint booth.
