| | | Businessman: It says one hundred percent guaranteed, you moron! Brad Hamilton: Mister, if you don't shut up I'm gonna kick one hundred percent of your ass! I was the local KFC and the person at the front of the line was this older lady are her developmentally challenged teen daughter. The mother was constantly changing the order. At one point she freaked on the cashier girl when she demanded to know why gravy wasn't listed on the big, overhead menus. The cashier girl pointed to it and the lady says "well, not my fault your sign is screwed up, you should fix it!". The guy in front of me looked back at me and rolled his eyes. I responded with a courtesy "WTF" shoulder shrug. After doing some math in her head the lady had a revelation that by ordering in a combo she could save $1.67. So, the cashier girl, whom I know from brief chats on previous visits as a really sweet, tolerant person, reached for a pad to re-do the total. "Ohhhh, you don't believe me", the lady shrieked. The retarded developmentally challenged daughter chirps up, "Mom, don't let her rip you off!!!". The whole restaurant was filled with this uneasy tension. After a short wait the cashier brought the bagged order to the counter. "You put knives and forks in there, right?". "Yes", the cashier girl said. "You sound like you had a long day", the lady says, trying to show some sympathy. I muttered under my breath something along the lines of "no kidding, grandma". She didn't hear it but my fellow line waiters did and they started giggling with knowing grins. The mother at this point just started to sense the situation. She then grabbed her daughters arms and wobbled out the door. Once I made my way to the front of the line, I made my order and paid with exact change that I had ready because I've ordered the same thing in the past. I told her she was doing a bang up great job and she explained in a quiet but meaningful way, "it's just been steady customers all day long with no breaks and I have to close tonight". This girl truly deserves a raise or something. A really cool operator. She could have blew up at any point but she handled herself in a way I'm not sure I could have myself. I would have pulled a Brad Hamilton... Heh.

| | | I one time couldn't make exact change for a woman when I made a delivery. The total was something like $17.32. She gave me a $20.00. I started to take some ones off of my roll and handed them to her. She kept waiting, so I dug into my pocket to start getting change. She kept waiting. I started counting out coins, but didn't have enough to add up to the amount. She kept waiting. Eventually, seeing that she wasn't even going to let me have a 68 cent tip, I realized that my only solution was to give her a total of $4 change. The bitch negative tipped me.

| | | this would be great therapy... during my vacation, get hired at a burger king, mcdonalds, whatever and wait for the magic customer to come through. Someone like the aforementioned bitch or any number of other self-important assholes to treat people like shit. Wait for them to do what they do best and then, right in the middle of it, come across the counter flailing obscenities, fists flying, just doing your best rage. Then quit, look back at the customer and tell them, "i'll be waiting for you in the parking lot!" And then leave... just for the hell of it.

| | | Hm well ... I used to not have a lot of confidence and so when people treated me like crap, they got away with it. Two years of therapy and roller derby later, I walk differently, carry myself differently, and make better eye contact. I even speak differently. That cuts down on the asshole customers, quite a bit. But still I get the occasional dooshbag who thinks I'm harassing him when I ask if he wants a fucking refill on his fucking coffee, or check on him 2 minutes after he gets his food to make sure it tastes okay and that he has everything he needs. And as soon as those fuckers get snippy with me, I get snippy right back. I suppose someday this will be my downfall. For instance, the man from another waiter's section who was clearing his throat and apparantly attempting to get my attention. He began to whistle when this didn't work. I finally turned around and said, "You know, I'm not a dog. Use your words. Saying, excuse me, please, ma'am, would have been a lot more effective in getting what you want. Now, all you've done is treat me disrespectfully and have gotten yourself nowhere, with your poor efforts." I also am known to tell people, "Look, I'm sorry that the cook didn't make your food right, but you are not allowed to speak to me in that tone of voice. You can either take it down a notch or pay now and get out." Interestingly, whenever I do this 180 on them (I go from very sweet to ass-kicking-time), they almost always tip me at least 15%. Oh, except for obese trucker butch bitch. She got good service, everything was perfect, nothing wrong, we were nice to each other ... and then she gave me 4 cents as a tip. She's another customer that I gave their tip back to. How fucking rude.

| | | Posted by emck00 I worked at a small ice cream place in august, we had not only ice cream, but subs, hamburgers, etc. WOW. the people you have to deal with just astonish me. I would feel like absolute shit coming home from work because of the assholes i dealt with. I found that the people who i recognized pretended not to know me and were incredibly rude, but most of the time people i didnt know were very nice and understanding. I will never work with the public again. It sucks, i'd rather work alone and be happy then deal with retards everyday who cant treat me with any respect, when im the one dealing with their food.
| when it comes to the people dealing with my food, i tip big and am uber polite. Emck, which place is that?

| | | So speaking of courtesy, tipping, ect...... What does everyone here tip for various services, or if you are providing these services, what tip is acceptable. 1) Food delivery (pizza, subs, chicken, ect) 2) Sit-down restaurant with full service 3) Buffet style restaurant 4) News paper delivery 5) Hotel cleaning service Anything I missed as well please.
If you provide the above services, particularly number 1 and 5, do most people tip or most people not tip?

| 1. 20% or so. 2. Between 20 and 40% 3. 20% 4. I don't receive a newspaper 5. Around five bucks a day, but only if I stay more than one night. Hairstylists get between 30 and 50%. Baristas get a dollar or two a drink and whatever change I have if I pay cash. Bartenders get two bucks a drink or 20%, whichever is higher. Bellman should get a dollar or two a bag, that's not my policy because I can carry my own shit, but just the industry standard. A shuttle driver who loads your bags and takes you to the airport should get about the same, maybe a bit more if he opens doors for you. I did give a dude $10 for taking me to Target so I could buy clean underwear when I was stranded by the airport. This is all depending on average, pleasant service.
