Fantastic! No job should be beneath anyone - someone needs to perform these tasks Glad you found something.

at least you got job offers...take one before you end up like me.

I applied for 2 more jobs today that are full time and one is in a funeral home and I happen to know about 3 people that work there. Im still hoping I get something better but will do the pt job for now. I called unemployment yesterday and they still are not showing anything. He said file my third bi weekly claim and if i dont hear anything to call tuesday and tell them I am at 6 weeks, he said they have to move me to the top of the list at this point.
Oh yeah my internet is shut off and i am posting this from my moms, so ya wont see me around for a bit. I will keep you all posted when i can and thanks for all the support and encouraging words..it is much appreciated!

I wish you luck with the unemployment! They are really slacking! It will work out!

Apply to Blue Mountain... Huge discount! ha

Even though I keep getting job offers, I'm applying places. I'm keeping my options open! I can collect until January but I don't want to jump into a job that I may not like!

One thing that I've learned is that searing online to find jobs is great, but applying and/or sending your resume and cover letter online sucks.

Find an opening via the internet.
Call someone there to talk about it.
Ask them how you should apply. They may say email it (to /dev/null), but do what you can to make it a paper copy that you'll hand deliver.

I've heard from some employers that they get so many electronic resumes and applications they they don't even look into them all. Basically what they're doing is trying to find from dream employee with ridiculous qualifications that is okay with low pay in a position that they really don't need filled immediately.

It's like me selling a car worth $5000 online with no price mentioned, little does anyone that is emailing me about it know that I'm really looking to sell it for $15,000. I'm just waiting for some rich guy to say he loves it and will pay anything for it. The employers accepting online applications are kind of doing the same thing.

If they REALLY are looking to hire someone, they should be okay with meeting you, talking to you on the phone, and dropping you're resume off in person. Just by dropping off you resume there you might tell if you'd enjoy working there or not which is tough to do online sometimes.

Wow, this quote was from when this thread started. Now check out this article in the NYT which I just came across: http://www.nytimes...y/27shortcuts.html

So here I sit , almost 7 weeks into unemployment. I still dont even know if I am going to get it. I called at my six week date and got the same stupid response and then hung up on. I called my state rep. yesterday and they hopefully have helped. They called unemployment and my case has been expedited, which means I am at the top of the list, and I should hear something soon.I will believe it when I see it and am not hoping for anything. I had 2 job interviews yesterday and hopefully within the week I will find out if I got either of the jobs. Its hard looking for work with no computer and no car but I am still trying my best. My dogs had a bit of a fight the other day and I ended up taking one for stitches to the cost of 200.00, thankfully my daughter got paid and she paid the bill.I got a disconnect notice for the water and electric yesterday too...fun fun....my mom has been helping me with food so we arent going hungry. Things need to turn around for me soon. I dont know how much more I can take. I miss being able to post here and only have a few minutes to even let you all know whats been going on. So anyhow, Im still in the same boat I have been in. It is just sinking a little faster lately.

It sucks that we are all in these stupid situations. I will lose my car registration and electric this week. i did get through to unemployment and they made a decision, but the lady couldnt tell me what it was , she said it didnt show on her screen, so i should get a letter tomorrow. I am telling you, I better get it or I dont know what I am going to do. I would go strip at the creepy adult bookstore here but hell, they havent even been busy..lol....(kidding)
I got turned down for 2 jobs, am in the running for one yet and have another interview tomorrow at a psych hospital. Something has got to give soon. For all of us! All of you going through this shit too, i am sending good thoughts your way!!!

Mis, I hope you get your answer today & its a good one! (((((hugs)))))

I hate calling the unemployment line. I had to call in today to give my hours for training. Thank god,I fall under the guidelines & still can collect until I start full-time. I tried both #'s for the last two days & only received busy signals.

I finally got through about 4:30 & the call center closes @ 4:45. The recording said... Our offices close in a few minutes, because try back tomorrow & then the line went dead! gotta love it!

BTW... The women on the phone told me they are hiring! haha

Got some news today when I picked Shael up from work. Apparently the IP High Command issued a simple letter stating that because of the economic problems currently ongoing, the demand for our paper is dropping off which means that one, possibly both, paper machines will be idled which means layoffs. This also comes at a time when the recovery boiler developed a hole in it's internal piping which means shutdown.

What does that mean to me? Well, if there is a layoff, the senior people that are qualified for my job can 'bump' me out of that job and take it for themselves leaving me hitching a ride for the unemployment line. What does THAT mean to me? Well, everything that I have worked for in the past three almost four years ago will probably be repossessed or foreclosed upon as we'll probably only be getting $405-425 a week. When you're used to bringing home $600-720 a week, that's a lot of money lost.

So, even though back in 2005, i took the 'sure thing' job, i'll probably still end up with the short, smelly end of the stick. It's amazing how fast you can go from top of the pile to riding your lambofeeties out to the gate.

i don't want to panic, but i'll tell you, that feeling is creeping into the pit of my stomach.

All we can do is wait.

That's it. Life is a waiting game. I'm in the same boat as Sam...some bitch from the warehouse, because she's got two more years in the mill than I do, can and probably will take my job.

What's worse for me though...this was my last resort. I honestly have no where else to go. I've burned too many bridges in my last few jobs and there's no way I'm going to go work with my sister with the retards, so...if I'm gone for good, then I end up riding unemployment as long as it goes, then, trying to figure out what comes next.

I didn't make a contingency plan because, like Sam, I thought this would be the last job I ever had. My step dad had 38 years there, my uncle Kenny, 41 years, I figured I had at least another 10 or 20 in me before my ankles and knees give out. I didn't think IP would welch on the deal. They've been in Ticonderoga since 1888, 120 years. Hell, IP started in Ticonderoga, then became what they are today. What really frosts my ass is that they don't care, they don't care that Ticonderoga made them, most of the paper they market now is based on experimentation that was done on Number 7 and Number 8 paper machines over the last 50 years. When they want to see if something works, they come to Ticonderoga, because if we can't make it work on those machines, it won't work anywhere, period.

Anyway, I'm tired, pissed off at the company and the union for not fighting harder for us, so here's where we are. I just want to go to the manager and ask, "What next?" Maybe Monday.

Shael

Samurai and Shael.

Damned shame to hear you may be losing your jobs.

Sadly, I've found out that the age where someone starts with a company and is there their entire life is dead. All large organizations (governments, corporations and yes, even unions) only care about themselves and how much profit they can generate for their higher ups. They don't give a rat's ass about the little folks (us) who got them there in the first place.

I'm upgrading my skills and getting into a field where my new skills will be in demand and I can at least carry them from job to job. I would love to be able to stay with a company for life but it simply won't happen anymore regardless of how well you work for them.

Good luck and I hope things work out for the both of you.

I didnt get unemployment! I am appealing it of course, and was crying and all upset, but later that day good news finally came my way...I got a job and it is the one I wanted in the funeral home!! I went in on thursday and filled out all of my paper work and friday I went to take my pee test...(Thanks Pais..your pee better be clean!)

I can now relax a bit and am going to state college this weekend with my parents (they are dropping me off at a friends and going on to Dubois) Then next weekend Pais is dragging me to the Chest Fest, so I will finally get to meet some of you.

I hope everything works out ok, I am still holding my breath though.I have had so much bad luck lately that i wont really relax until I actually start the job.

Hopefully the rest that are in this fucked up situation hear some good news as well. I hate being poor and worrying so much and I hate for anyone else to go through that too. You are all in my thoughts and I am hoping for the best for everyone.

This is probably worth a whole other thread, but you had to take a drug test to work at a funeral home?

I'm not saying that because I don't believe you, I just think it's fucking ridiculous.
