| | | Posted by splumer I dunno, I watched the instrumental with Steve Vai, and all it was was guitar wank. Are we talking about the same song?
| Ah, good ol' guitar wank! I remember when Satriani was touring here, he did a guest spot on a radio show, and was put up in a guitar challenge against some teenage caller who'd only been playing for a couple of years (though he'd probably done nothing else in that time!) First round was all 'guitar wank', Satriani first, and then the kid, who kept up remarkably well, shredding away. Second round, Satriani changed approach, and did a great, slow-paced, roaring, funky thing, but the kid really only had shredding in his repertoire. All in good fun, of course. I think I had a point... something about there being life beyond showy stuff...

| I'm reminded of what Carlos Santana is purported to have said: judging a guitarist by how fast he can play is like judging a writer by how fast he can type.

| | | Searching the web for something cool, something to rock you guys socks off. Well I bumped into this song, by a guy I remember from years ago, before he was grey. It has an abandoned air hanger in it..........As I listened to it, it became clear, just what a truly powerful song it really is. Well written, performed by a great singer songwriter, simple, heartfelt. It's not a rocker, but it is a very nice tribute to a fallen brother...... http://www.youtube...atch?v=NozGlCuuPac

| | | Yeah!! very nice, I dig Daughtry. My wife brought the CD home and I thought, cute, Daughtry, American Idol, one album and he'll go the path of Justin Guarinni. God Damn it, I was soooo wrong about Daughtry. Very powerful performer.....
Radney Foster is such a fantastic lyricist, his words tell the story without ever having to go to that hokey stretch for a rhyme. You know the lyric in every song, where you know the writer just wanted to go to bed? That almost never happens to Radney.

| | | Big Daddy, I'll have to check out your vid tomorrow at work, my computer and YouTube aren't gettin' along right now. I don't know what I'll do tonite? Speakin' of justin Guarini, He was co-hosting the Grammy's last night. AND Did you guys happen to catch Pink, do her Grammy thing?? She was the best thing in the whole show. Meta, Why do the australian actors come over here, and then use an American accent? Mel Gibson, Olivia Newton John, House, Mentalist. I'm sure there is more I've forgotten. I wonder why the studios can't just write it as though they are australian? I loved crocodile Dundee, and Steve Irwin. Just cause you guys can't speak NORMAL.....Sheesh..Give a country a break!!!

| | | I hadn't heard anything about that Justin G in the longest time. Hell i had no idea he was even hosting the Grammy's actually. I unfortunately missed the Grammy's, but i was told the they were really good and Beyonce Knowles and Taylor Swift pretty much cleaned house. I've been looking at youtube videos of the Grammy's and actually just came across that Pink performance. That was quite the outfit she was wearing and her whole routine was done quite well. Although i have no idea how she didn't barf while hanging and spinning in that thing over and over. Posted by metawaffle
"Normal", hah! Interestingly, Australian hip-hop artists in the last few years have made a big move towards using Australian accents, which is quite refreshing. There were a couple of pioneering artists, then suddenly everyone was doing it.
| Yeah i didn't know what to say there hehe, and i did not know that fact, but if it's a trend people will follow suit. A friend of mine was telling me that if your listening to an Australian singer you can usually hear the accent, but with Orianthi i can't actually....weird. Meta i have a question for you here. So basically Australia is split into 5 sections i believe, West, South, Northern, South Wales and Queensland. Now obviously these each have their own kind of accent, but im curious to know which has the thickest accent. I mean Orianthi is from Adelaide i believe and her accent is thick, and yet that actress Holly Valance i'm familar with is from Melbourne and although you can tell she's Australian she can actually hide the Australian accent while talking which i find very interesting. Like i said i was basically just curious to know which accent was the thickest. I mean a Darwin accent is probably very different from a Melbourne accent and your Brisbane accent is probably very different from a Perth accent.

| Actually, accent doesn't really vary across the country like that. You might find broader, thicker accents in rural areas, and more neutral ones in the cities, but there isn't any significant difference between, say, cities on opposite sides of the country. Australians do tend to have a 'cultural cringe' when it comes to matters of culture - Steve Irwin was generally a bit embarrassing to people while he was alive - and that might be why so many performers adopt a different accent when they start working overseas. That's why it's good to see the Australian hip-hop thing - it's nice to see artists taking pride in their own culture, rather than feeling a need to adopt someone else's. All this said, when I come back to Australia after a few weeks abroad, the Australian accent does sound a little unrefined, even to my ears.

| | | Steve Irwin, embarrassing?? That guy was awesome..... Now Dundee, I could see that might make a country cringe a bit. Kinda like our Gomer Pyle, Gilligan, Barney Fife, Ernest. You just don't want the world thinkin' that's what everybody in your country is like..... I love the australian accent, a cute little blond, surfer girl, aussie chick , thats my dream girl. Pillow talk fetish I guess....... Truthfully I'm into accents, I can place U.S. accents, And some british. New York, N. Carolina, Texas, Manchester, Birmingham, Cockney. All different in little ways. This songwriter wrote this song for his young son. They were going thru a divorce and the wife and son were moving over to Europe. Knowing it was going to be a long separation, he wrote this. It makes me think of my Grandsons that live too far away. http://www.youtube...atch?v=9jfrU-rh2xw 15yr old guitarist was ripper, to bad it's a cell phone clip.

| Well shows what i know heh, but thanks for the really good answer because it always made me wonder about that. I've been on an acoustic, Emo binge. So I'll post a rocker for ya'. I crank this one up in my garage when I'm workin' on cars or bikes........The neighbors love it I swear. http://www.youtube...atch?v=E52tl3Zh94w

And Meta!! I'll bet a dollar Big Daddy's got some kinda crazy French,Icelandic, Inuit, accent goin' on. I'm certain you can close your eyes and hear me. Yah bro, that is so tubular, like I was cruizin' down for some hot babes. But the waves were soooo sweeeet, I was like, I gotta ride one of those instead right. So I boned out for the swells, and got barreled dude......It was soo sweet!!! Later bro's http://www.youtube...atch?v=16qsYreBJZE
