I miss the floor mounted high-beam switch. That was a good idea!

I miss the floor mounted starter button, that way I didn't have to put down my beer, or my bong........

And I do agree with you, trouble shooting on today's cars would be almost impossible without OBD.

I love plugging my computer into the obdII port, and it telling me exactly whats wrong. I order the part, replace it, and everything is perfect again. With OBDI cars, you just get a general idea of where the problem is, and non OBD cars you will just sit there and scratch your head (fuel injected and electronic igniton at least, like my old Z).

I do like the simplicity of a carb and spark.

Hidden gas doors, as mentioned above...Behind the tail light in the '56 Bel Air is the coolest thing ever.

Metal dashboards, again as mentioned.

Two-tone paint.

Manual transmissions being standard, and automatics being the exception to the rule.

Two-tone vinyl interiors.

And last but not least...CHROME.

More I miss.....

3 on the tree.

Center dash guages (like old CJ jeeps)

True Base model cars (vinyl floors, radio delete, no AC, etc)

Big 4 door american sedans, only the Crown Vic left and it may be gone soon.

Skinny tires on 16" rims.

WWW before it meant world wide web. (Wide White Walls)

True hubcaps and not wheel covers.

The half way across the dash speedometers. Think 60's and early 70's.

E-brakes on the floor. Next to the clutch. Or the old pull type next to the steering column. (Thanks Nissan for holding out so long)

A different body every year.

Foot wide fenders.

Under dash AC. Lookin like a window unit.

Mirrors on trucks that were actually useful for towing.

Camper Specials

Being able to SEE my starter when I opened my hood.

Not having a airbag.

Non syncro transmissions.

Oil bath air filters.

Drive ins (tho I found one in Bessemer City NC still rollin along)

I like the fold out mirrors that the full size Dodges have... they're a pretty neat idea.

I hate how OBDII is required. It should be a luxury, not a standard.

And Daytime Running Lights are the shit. I wish my car had them, but I'm too cheap to install the module...

I believe my dad's 1960 Dodge van has the E-Brake on the floor, I liked when car's had Chrome/Metal bumpers.

Not a metal bumper with plastic infront of it like today's cars.

Was't alive for it, But the dodge van and my Volkswagen van have them.

Heh... my '99 Bug stopped chorinally blowing headlight bulbs when I disabled the DRLs. But engine removal is almost required when changed the headlights on a New Beetle.

Really? I can't stand DRL's to me when every one has there headlights on no one stands out. Besides there are times I really don't want to stand out or be seen.

I prefer DRLs actually. There's places I drive I don't need the full headlights but just a wee bit.

The problem is that some of the first cars with DRLs actually were at 3000+ candelas instead of the initial recommendation of 1500 candelas which became a federal standard in the US and Canada. Its the perfect brightness because glare at that power is not an issue.

And keep in mind, that Canada's CMVSS 106 mandates them while the US FMVSS 106 sets a standard for them but does not mandate. So if don' want them all the time, you can put in a switch legally for the US.

I drive a Grand Marq, so I don't have them, but my neighbor hates the ones on his Chevy Express, so he always drives around with the E-brake down a notch, how do you permanently override them?

On newer vehicles, even the e-brake one notch trick doesn't work!

I disabled mine on several previous vehicles simply by pulling the DRL fuse. Have discovered on some late model vehicles, that pulling the fuse does not do the trick. I have not been successful on the H3 at disabling them period

Twisting the headlight/signal stalk backwards did the trick in a Saturn I rented recently, but it had to be redone every time the car was started.

Yeah, it's programmed into theROM of the BCM in every Canadian sold GM since '91 (I believe) if you yank the DRL relay or wire in a switch, the service vehicle soon light turns on. On some of the ones with the auto lights, you can twist the stalk or switch back, and they'll turn off, and some (like my '03 Sierra), they still stay on.

As for my Bug, I just pulled out the headlight switch and capped off the terminal for the DRLs. It's a MK4 thing.
