| | | Posted by team haymaker yeah go with a diesel VW, and if its out of your price range, take a look a 2.0 jetta wagon. mine got great mileage. as much as I love the CRV, stay away from it, mileage is really bad for a honda. I would also suggest a protege 5, its no VW but they're inexpensive and look good
| the whole point of going with a VW would be for the TDI. The 2.0L 8V engine is absolute crap in the MK4 chassis, and I had one for 2 years ish. Yeah, it was reliable, kinda, but the mileage is complete garbage. A 1.8T gets better mileage than a 2.0L and is 1000x the fun. I'd be damn lucky to get over 500km of highway driving with one tank going 120 on the 401. It's also crap if you're hauling stuff/have passengers, no power and no torque, I can't even imagine the 2.0L in a wagon. The ABA version in the MK3s is pretty decent being the MK3's dont weight as much as the MK4s, but I'm ashamed VW still use this engine in the golf/jetta city.
