Posted by Mr_Fiend It's real simple for me. The evidence of God is in the complexities of life that I see everyday. My consciousness, perception of reality, love and deepest emotions.... My belief in God stems from my perception of life. Life and the existence of it, IS God. Meaning, who He is, is described in the world He created.
I 100% agree with this. The majesty and sublime beauty of existence is some potent shit. The complexity of human relationships and potential of human endeavor boggle the mind, and still all of that is nothing compared to the mysteries of the way the universe apparently works, from subatomic particles that can react to events before the event even happens to observations that the past moves away from us in both time and space.
In fact, I think that string theory and its successors may just provide evidence enough to wrap up the whole god question, revealing it to be no more than the clockworks of existence, compressed into multiple dimensions.
Posted by Mr_Fiend ...are from a created source, not from some accident of random particles.
I still don't see any reason to assume that some entity created it. The mere existence of the interworking aspects of things is god enough for me. It seems so egocentrically simplistic to feel the need to attribute a creator.

The problem I have with this is that pagans either pre-dated the Abrahamic religions or existed independent of them, so they weren't "twisting" anything. But also, it makes good sense to venerate nature, since nature is where life comes from. (YMMV)
You're getting at the heart of the statement and side skirting what it's saying at the same time.
How so?
“We are not going to have the kind of cooperation we need if everyone insists on their own narrow version of reality. … the great divide in the world today … is between people who have the courage to listen and those who are convinced that they already know it all.”

Nature facilitates and sustains life, nature itself had to come from something. We are to take care of nature, but not worship it. I want to worship the source.
Of course pagans pre-dated all religions. Pagans and the desire to worship things and objects has been around since the fall of man. God and peoples knowledge of His existence has always been here.
Genesis describes Adam walking with God as if he were a physical person. Things were a lot different before sin was let into the world.

What exactly is so funny? Do you just like to laugh at people's beliefs?
No, I just can't help it. It's probably more of a nervous reaction out of desperation and sadness that someone believes in things like Adam and Eve or magic candles.

From what I have learned about MM, he doesn't have a problem with people who have beliefs that are reasonable. At first he said my beliefs were laughable. Then after we talked I think I made my views fairly clear, and he hasn't a said a negative thing about it sense.
Perhaps if some people were more critical of their own beliefs and made more rational and sound statements, he wouldn't hurt your feelings so much.

Yes, lets all try to please each other... That wont happen. I dont know about other people here, but my feelings have not been hurt, I expect every form of slander and mockery that is thrown at me. Wont stop me! God loves you! And so do I, though to a lesser extent...

In this context, the proper honorific is The Mandias.

It irritates me when people attribute human traits to "god". It would defeat the purpose of it being a god to begin with.
I'm more of an apathiest than anything. Does god exist? I don't know and I don't particularly care much.
If I had to take a guess, this would be my standpoint:
So basically people believe that whatever godform is more or less the ultimate creator, right? And some people, and physicists, believe that the universe is so profoundly perfect that it had to have been created, or at least driven to creation. If the universe did in fact create itself, it would have had to also create the parameters for it to exist and sustain itself - thus the perfection. So if God is the creator of ultimate perfection, and the universe can do that on it's own, then the universe is God.
(quoted from previous thread)
So basically, "god" is everything. Christians like to say god exists within us all right? There you go. It isn't some guy sitting on a cloud directing orders. It is an all encompassing... energy(?) of sorts consisting of the macrocosm and microcosm.

I think you're headed in the right direction. Though, those thoughts can easily fall into pagan worship of stars and elements because they are "God".
God specifically said to numerous people not to worship false idols. The israelites did this while Moses was acquiring the 10 commandments (which ironically say not to worship idols or false gods).
Christians say "God exists in them" because they let Him in, His spirit, the Holly Spirit if you want to get technical. God isnt in you if you havent let Him in. We have a free will...
I like to say it as, evidence of God is all around us. Reality and perception are based off of His reality, though now tainted and twisted by the absence of God, satan

Just curious, what makes you the authority on who's religion is "right"? From where I'm standing, you have your beliefs that you employ. Just like everyone else. But all you can do is believe it, you cant prove them 100% right any more than you can prove the pagans are 100% wrong.

Maybe I am not grasping what you are saying here, but it seems to me that you are talking smack about the Jews being something they are/were not. Being a Jew, I take issue with this. So tread lightly when you respond to this.

I dont have any authority. Dont want what I got, dont listen to me, simple.
Again, I'm repeating the Word of God, the God of Abraham.

Um, if you dont want, or fear people attacking your beliefs or who you are, you should probably leave before you get pissed off. But I shouldnt have to tell you that.
I dont have anything bad to say about the Jews, they're Gods "chosen people". I was using that story as an ironic example.
