Nope, the campus is on relatively high ground.

Cool. I was worried about the proximity of the river and the sound...glad the hospital was ok. Sub basements can come in real handy if they're not flooded out. [last edit 9/16/2013 5:31 AM by imprezawrxsti - edited 1 times]

That right there is what pisses me off with these places. People, mainly teens, can't just appreciate it for what it is. They have to go & tag it up & do dumb shit, like setting the place on fire or breaking windows. If people could leave well enough alone, that would be great

| | | Everyone calls it KPPC. I lived miles away from it. We still go here when I visit Long Island. Edgewood was demolished and built by the same. As well as Pilgrim State. It's ALL over this site. ;)

I know that some people don't want to hear this, but some places are so empty and bland that it gets to the point where good graffiti actually gives the location a different, typically more interesting feel than it would otherwise have. No.. that is not art, that is absolute shit. Until relatively recently (within the past two years), most of everything here was that exact variety of middle school-level scribble bullshit.. but lately, noticeably better pieces have been appearing, akin to something you'd see in NYC (or any other big city, for that matter).

| | | You guys haven't heard of 5pointz I see. Its a huge abandoned building in queens I think that the owner allows & encourages artists to leave their mark. Its constantly changing but always beautiful

| | | Ok, I guess you have. But for most abandonments the graffiti is just pure unadelerated garbage. Its a bunch of prebescant idiots spraying dicks & "fuck you" on the wall

| | | That will happen anywhere. If you really think that diminishes the quality of something, maybe you are going to "UE" for the wrong reasons... Like glorify your photos.. Not actually enjoy the point behind UE'n...

No, it's not abandoned. Food cart vendors have part of it rented along with one or two other companies. A big part of it is unused though due to a stairway that collapsed and killed a woman. The art is permitted - as in you have to apply for a permit and submit a design of what you want to do. If it's not good enough it's not going up. As for graffiti in places like KPPC getting better - it's because real artists are taking to abandoned buildings so they can paint without the legal hassles. Many of them spend several hours painting at a time. It's serious art. They often travel to get to such places - not unlike UE hospital tourists.
The Zoo York Goon Squad. If it looks good, Loot it. |

| | | im sorry - even "good" graffiti makes me want to vomit when it's inside of a 100+ year old structure. actually - i hate all of that shit. maybe something on the side of a wall in some shitty ass neighborhood but not inside of an architecturally stunning piece of ACTUAL art. Likewise. I did have a look around a few years back, though. I was impressed. Watch out for 5-0 though, we aren't the only ones who frequent the place. On another note, did any of the campus flood during Sandy?
|
Yup, found a bunch o water in a ton o the basements.
