| | | Posted by Dressed in Black I have two pairs of these:
(Not my picture but just to give an idea) They're Canadian combat boots. Waterproof up to the top and I'd imagine that they have the steel plate in the bottom. They are not steel toed. I wouldn't suggest wearing these in the snow, they were aweful.

My Armoured Recce a Ass they are Whens the last time you spent a week wading in the mud, and digging a stage 6 trench? hunkering down in the buttplug swamps of Suffield and Shiloa and Wainwright. Fuck, Ive been wearing my Issued Combat boots for everything for 9 plus yrs now and go damn, up until 2 years ago, Always wet. Till i discovered SnoGuard(tm), a beeswax based paste, you bake your boot, get it to about 60 deg C, then, smear this shiet everyhwere, Moist foot air out, No water in... But my new issued Gortex's.... Its like the Angel micheal is sucking my feet on a route march. Yea, im one of those guys who feels, if its good enough for the rest of the troops, its fine for me. but if i had 600 canuckbucks? Danner Ranger's

| | | Posted by Mark Want to bet Sir? I own 4 pair two are the same kind. Old military steel toe combat boots, new Bates combat boots(x2), new desert combat boots. pronopunk, how heavy are yours, are old ones were heavy but they have bates and they are light as hell. I was debating getting shanked ones so I didnt hurt my feet on nails but not sure due to heavy ass boots.
|
I do admit the american ones might have steel toes, but the ones the canadian military were issuing "Standard Combat Boots" are not steel-toed. The work boots are. I work in Radar and if people come into our unit we always have to check their boots. People don't realize that the combats aren't steel-toed. The desert combats are, the black ones aren't. From left to right: Combat Boots (not ST), Work Boots (ST), Desert Combat Boots (ST)

| | | No Combat boots for me, I stick with reinforced leather dress boots. It has some of the nifty features like a nail resistant sole, though I will admit to them being lacking in comparison to combat boots. BUT, I have to say you fit in a lot better in situations where wearing combat boots might bring a little to much suspicion to your activities. Mind you, I do keep a change of clothes with my equipment in I have to have a sudden change of appearance. Though I have to say, hands down, combat boots are best for abandonments and wood based locations.

If you wear long pants and polish the hell out of your boots they can look exactly like dress shoes.

Maybe I don't lace them properly but once the water gets above the top of the boot they just fill up. Until that happens they stay perfectly waterproof for me. If yours don't stay waterproof then polish them. I can stand in a river right below the top of the boot and they will not leak at all. It does feel cold, maybe you mistake that for water inside.

makes you louder when you walk.. I wouldn't think theres much hazard to it though, depending on the glass.. broken light bulbs won't do anything but depending on the shard and thickness it 'could' go through your shoe.. Also you'll lose most any traction you ever had with bits of glass all over your shoes (at least on harder surfaces)

A guy at my work picked up a pair of steel toe shoes (not boots) with shank, for around $39 canadian at Wal-Mart. So the same shoe in a US Wal-Mart would probably be about $30...

If you're really worried about stepping on nails etc, it would be a great investment... [last edit 1/1/2006 7:32 PM by Jester - edited 1 times]

Watch out for busted bottles. I had one slice straight through a fairly new tennis shoe and deep into my foot. Not a fun walk home.

No they are made to be flexible and you cant make it work just by cutting out metal.

Shattered window glass shouldn't be able to pierce shoes I wouldn't think but just be carefull.. and as far as Cat. boots just check to see if they have a shank in them.. I would assume they make thier boots with and without the shank.. As long as you watch where you go and move with a little caution you should be fine..
