I drink an inane amount of water, so I carry water bottle everywhere I go. I used to use almost solely Nalgene bottles, but some time last year I gave Klean Kanteen a try. I really do like their product; simple and tough! (They will dent if they get dropped really hard, but at the worst the dent is cosmetic.) I prefer the narrow mouth version because it is the easiest to the cap.

Canteen ): I like things that can hang smoothly against my hip or not take up a huge amount of space in a backpack.

Camelback Mule

How big are the compartments on that thing? Would it be possible to fit a Canon XSi in either of them?

Thanks,
~Chappie

For all you photo buffs who hate mixing water bottles with cameras and exploration crap, this is the perfect choice (and mine in 2 weeks)

Picked up a Lowepro CompuDaypack instead. Only $79 and well worth it. The laptop compartment in the back works as a bladder compartment too.

Next buy is an aluminum water bottle from Sears. Only $7!

Here's my story:

I'm in the middle of nowhere, and I have a big Nalgene bottle of water. Since it wasn't hot, I didn't need TOO much water and the jug would get me through the day. I pull off at my UE location and snap a few pictures. After heading towards an alcove of trees, I start plotting my routes. I open the bottle and before I even lift the bottle, a pidgeon, concealed in the trees, drops a well aimed shit inside the manhole-sized mouth-piece. That drastically cut my adventure short.

Behind every mistake, there is a lesson.

I'm just not that great at learning them!

My blackhawk pack has a pouch for a 100oz hydration reservoir. Hands free is the way to be.

I use a narrowmouth Nalgene (32oz), with a backup Camelback knockoff bladder. Works like a charm, especially in an Israeli surplus messenger bag-- I can store my camera and related paraphernalia in the front section, the bladder in the back, and a central pocket for maps, documents, etc. Grand total: 20$. Throw in some purification tablets and you've got yourself a pretty portable and easy to access setup.
