These things were driving me nuts, but have a look at the security panel later - there are nowhere near enough zones for every sensor, so are these just occupancy sensors for the lights?

Dont forget you can have several detection units per zone.

no, one of those is a glass breakage sensor (the one on the right). The other is definately alarm related.

The one on the left of the pipes is an IR motion sensor. You're in it's field of view, so if the alarm was armed, you would have been busted. Assuming it was still monitored. Remember - an alarm is only good as long as you keep paying your monitoring fees. BTW: Usually all the window/glass sensors are in a loop on 1 zone.

There is only one motion sensor that actually does anything... and you know when you hit it.

you can have as many motion sensers as you wish, I have 5 in my home and all of them are in service! same as glass breaks. you can also put more than one on a circuit, just wire them in series.

Yep, Bman is right. I have several motion sensors and 2 glass break sensors. just wire in series and you're good.
