| | | It's official, the Iowa State Fair is cancelled. The website says postponed until 2021. Same sh!t, different wording. https://www.iowastatefair.org/safety/ People around Iowa are losing their minds over this. I could really care less. IDK - no exposure is like overexposure. No Exposure: I've never been to the Iowa State Fair. Growing up in NYC, the state fair in NY was like 7 hours away in Rochester, so going to the state fair was a non-starter. I never really developed an interest in that sort of thing. Overexposure: I lived (literally) across the street from Rockaways' Playland. Playland cost money and when I was a kid, I didn't have much of it. I could get free rides in exchange for doing odd jobs for Playland, but you could only ride the roller coaster so many times before it became dull. Platland was my first exploration. Infiltrating Playland in the dead of winter. That was interesting.

| | | Things are somewhat predictably going back to shit in the UK, or at least in certain ways. Cases are once again rising a lot, it's now up to around 2750 cases a day on average. This is almost entirely down to people in the 17-34 age group who have pretty much stopped taking any notice of anything, the proportion of confirmed cases within that age group is vastly more than any other age groups currently. However there are a few caveats to this new surge, in that the majority of new cases are situated in areas that have seen proportionally more cases for the last few weeks, the so-called 'hotspots'. The large amount of new cases is also due to a great increase in the number of tests being done over the last few weeks in those hotspots as capacity has grown a lot, obviously the more tests you do the more you'll find. Most importantly however, even though the amount of new cases has been growing at some rate for the last few weeks now, hospital admissions and serious cases that require ICU treatment have remained low and stable, as have deaths. That being said, from tomorrow in England gatherings of more than six people anywhere, either inside or outside, are banned. The previous limit was 30, and it's hoped this will help stem or at least slow the new spread. Just the other day an idiot teenager was handed the maximum possible fine - £10,000 - for having a party with nearly 50 people in his house in one of the 'hotspot' areas.
