On my way out the door.

| | | Posted by Samurai so much needless death and destruction. so now Russia lawmakers are threatening Finland for their plans to join NATO. i'm sure the Finns are taking that seriously after seeing results in Ukraine... we are fucking spinning towards a world fucking war, kids. what the utter monstrous fuck?
| I'm sure the Finns are seeing the results in Ukraine and understand that at this point it's the rattling of a rusty Russian saber, at least in terms of a conventional war. Recall that people were arguing that unchecked by NATO involvement, Russia was going to roll across Ukraine and into Moldova in a fell swoop to reclaim that corner of the former USSR. Suffice it to say that this became patently unrealistic within just a few days into their invasion and we all saw what sort of logistical problems the invaders were having. Now with 1) ~75% of the Russian military capability committed to Ukraine, 2) the Russian military having been revealed to be rotten (the relevant aspect in this discussion is their capability/competency, not their morality), 3) loss of plausible deniability to buy them prep time (remember that they had months to transfer/accumulate forces to the Ukrainian border ostensibly for "military exercises"), 4) a crippled economy, and 5) no narrative to tell their people (how do you explain being at war with the Finns right after the West has declared economic war on you after your "righteous" "special operation" to "de-Nazify" Ukraine?) So conventional war with the Finns is an empty threat. All bets are off on unconventional warfare (eg. cyberwarfare, biological terrorism), though.

| Not only all this, but an old family friend of ours was the number three guy in the Finnish Armed Forces, retired a couple years back. He filled my family in on Finland's take on Russia's war capabilities, as well as his own country's. Finland was the only country in the EU to never really demilitarize. The Finns are gonna be juuuuuuust fine.
