| | | Like I said months ago, if you want to risk your life, go ahead.... If you are driving a car on the public roads that I use with my family, you should be forced to wear your seatbelt. You MUST remain in the drivers seat during a collision or no one is in control of the vehicle. I agree with your earlier statement about disabling your airbags, I believe that is your choice to make, since it will harm no one else. But seatbelts, they should be mandatory just to keep you in your seat. I don't give two squirts of piss about your safety (seems harsh right?) since I believe you can choose your own level of comfort regarding safety devices, but I do care if your car is 'driving' without you since you moved over to the passenger seat. Note: I also feel that if you have anyone under the age of 16 in the car, you must also wear your seatbelt so that you don't crush them. If they are 16 and older, and you choose to not wear your seatbelt, they can choose to get out and not drive with you. Seatbelt fines are a joke, most violation fines are a joke. They are supposed to be a deterrent, but that rarely works. Instead of punishing people for behaviour that 'may' cause harm, why don't we punish the offenders who actually caused harm with much more severe penalties. You speed, crash and kill someone, you get a few years in jail. If you speed, cause no accidents, why be punished? It could be the same for seatbelts, keep the law as seatbelt use mandatory, and only ticket for people involved in accidents who weren't wearing a seatbelt (If anyone was actually hurt because of no seatbelt)

| | | Im a young driver, the kind that th'poh-leese like to pick on. I drive a rusty beater. I won't wear my seatbeelt if I know where Im going. If im out fer a drive to kill time, it goes on. Why? I don't know, its the way I do things. Seatbelts have saved my arse twice so far. Once when I was driving down Hwy 41 at 3am just south of Bon Echo. I went to turn down Head Rd. (Left hand turn) the fellow behind me pushed the rear of my car into a spin, into a tree, rolled over a ditch and landed about 20 yards from the Hwy 41. Other driver didn't even stay. Car was wrote and what pissed me off the most is that all my damn tools were spread all over the fawkin' road. First accident, I'd had my G2 for 13 days and I was still 16y.o. I got bruised bad but I walked away minus a socket-set and one crappy Ferd car. Second time was back in September, going on a nice stock-friendly trail-run, I was driving a friend's stock 1987 Suzuki Samurai with 31's and 2" bastard pack leaf-lift. I got being stupid, tried a bad line and rolled that bugger like it was a bowling ball. thebelt saved my ass 'cause when it went over, the seats got loose but the belt locked up and stuckme to my shakey old seat. One totalled Sammy, one bruised kid and one group of laughing wheelers.

| | | Posted by Samurai i'm sorry, but the government is not my mother or father. if I want to wear the fucking thing, that should be my choice. In my 96 and 98 Cavaliers, I had the airbags disabled as well. Samurai

When I was six I saw my dad go through the windshield of our car; I was in the front seat. He did it protecting me from going through. Life isn't so simple though... If your in a car by yourself, belts are optional. I survived two T-bones, and the one was at a 45 MPH direct driver door hit by a semi. I had to be cut out. If I wore my belt I would have died 10 years ago. You make your own path through life; when you follow another's, you pay for their mistakes. Fuck belts.
