Being Unemployed

So as on 8/25/08, i am unemployed. This in itself pisses me off. I was fired for not "being a good fit" to the job anymore and not going to an open house that I was never told I had to be at nor given any information about. They have been on my ass for a few months and I really wasnt happy there. I took a lot of shit at the job, and left many days crying. They even used my Grandmothers death as an excuse. Now I filed for unemployment that day, and then got all of my info in the mail, and when I went to file my bi-weekly claim, they had me marked that I voluntarily quit. I was livid. I said If I voluntarily quit, why did I come to work and then get fired that day? So I had to go through the bullshit again and give all the information again and so it seems now, I have my biweekly claim in and my waiting week. Still I have yet to receive any money.
I cant even look for a job because I have no gas, although I am looking online.
I am just pissed that it is almost a month and I still havent received anything.
My fridge took a shit so i cant keep any food and that pisses me off to.
Im having a wonderful time of it.

Cheer up Mis,

Unemployment doesn't cut checks everyday. I'd call again & make sure everything is processed. If you didn't get an appeal letter yet that is a good sign. I bet you'll have your funds next week.

That does suck. Though it sounds like your situation is not too good, I would love to be layed off right now. I need a nice kick in the ass to get moving to get a better job.

I was hoping for it too, I was determined I wasnt going to quit, so it wasnt unexpected, but this stupid unemployment sucks. How do they expect people to do it? Sad thing is there are no jobs here and I cant travel far since I drive a p.o.s. I have been looking for a job for months now and cant find anything, so you are not missing anything Pais other than you can drive out of town if you get a job!

Life is grand!

It will work out! I'm serious! just call again to CS & make sure everything is okay with your claim. Also, Ask if they see a check being cut.

I just want a job I enjoy! Not too much to ask.

It sucks!!!! I got fired on the 26th. They gave me a heads up so I could resign . Fuck that!!!!! I am no quitter and I will not let them get out of unemployment. Nice try. Not to mention I took a transfer in county government and still had to pay union dues. The union tells me new job, now on probation and we are not helping you. Sorry they can fire you for no reason because you are on probation again.

Ya and still no unemployment check. In waiting they tell me. Be patient.

That really stinks.

When I was let go form Comcast ... It was nothing but a headache.

This time was much better.

I was given a huge severance package plus two weeks pay & all my vacation time paid that I didn't use or even earn for the year. They also said that I would be able to collect.

Anyways, I hate looking for a job & it makes me sick to my stomach.

I've been in the same boat since 4/18/08. I still haven't found a job. I despise corporations. They are "Robber Barons" all over again. The only difference is that they now have "boards", instead of one person making asinine decisions.

when I worked at the Corps back in 2003-2005, the did the very same thing. They told the state of Vermont that I had voluntarily quit. I was smart and had recorded the phone call and had someone listening in on the phone conversation with them. I got on the phone with the unemployment people, told them I had proof they were lying and sent them a copy of the tape along with a notarized copy of what Josh had heard.
Hehehe.
The Corps was fined and i got my unemployment.

If I were you, i would get on the phone with a)your ex-employer and b)your state unemployment and start flinging some shit.

One thing that I've learned is that searing online to find jobs is great, but applying and/or sending your resume and cover letter online sucks.

Find an opening via the internet.
Call someone there to talk about it.
Ask them how you should apply. They may say email it (to /dev/null), but do what you can to make it a paper copy that you'll hand deliver.

I've heard from some employers that they get so many electronic resumes and applications they they don't even look into them all. Basically what they're doing is trying to find from dream employee with ridiculous qualifications that is okay with low pay in a position that they really don't need filled immediately.

It's like me selling a car worth $5000 online with no price mentioned, little does anyone that is emailing me about it know that I'm really looking to sell it for $15,000. I'm just waiting for some rich guy to say he loves it and will pay anything for it. The employers accepting online applications are kind of doing the same thing.

If they REALLY are looking to hire someone, they should be okay with meeting you, talking to you on the phone, and dropping you're resume off in person. Just by dropping off you resume there you might tell if you'd enjoy working there or not which is tough to do online sometimes.
