| | | i am the stage now where i owe what the car is worth and am able to trade it in without losing my shirt. i am looking for something that i can drive all year round that is good on gas. the Cobalt has been fun, it's been very reliable, it's just not practical for my life right now. i need just ONE car in my driveway. I do not want a used car, i don't want someone else' headache. I do not want a truck or SUV due to fuel costs in this area. I looked at other manufacturers as well. I do not want a Kia or Hyundai for personal reasons. Volkswagen does not make a small car that I find interesting. Also, for some reason, Volkswagens command a premium in this area. Cost is a factor. The Fiat 500 is interesting, but that strikes me as TOO small. I am, after all, 6ft tall and 300lbs. I will not own a Toyota for personal reasons. The Nissan Sentra does not really appeal to me, but is otherwise a fairly reliable car. I like the Ford Fiesta, but it struck me as expensive next to a similarly optioned Sonic. The Subaru Impreza has always been a solid choice, but again, in this area, they command a huge markup. (we live in a snowy, remote area as you all know) i keep coming back to the Chevy because of my positive experiences with GM's, the cost, the styling of the i find attractive. the interior is novel and properly equipped should be fine to live with. If i do buy the car, and it is a piece of shit, imagine the endless threads filled with 'i-told-you-so's" i will be afflicted with. Oh the joy. right now, nothing is set in stone. I have not driven the car yet, i am merely in the initial interest mode. I saw one and i liked it. The Cobalt is not so broken that it can't be mended. It's just a more expensive mend that I was financially prepared for this close to winter. you see, the Cobalt was a learning experience and a valuable one at that. it taught me an important lesson versus needs and wants. I did not need a new car in September of 2006. My 05 Cobalt was perfectly fine. I did, however, WANT the car, to keep up with the Joneses as it were. I mean, when people you know are showing up on the set with Mustang GT's, Evo 8's, the odd IS300 and the an M3 and all you have is rims and nice stripes, it's a very wanting feeling. Back in those days, I was very conscious of dick waving. I found out that having a fast car isn't happiness. It's nice, but that $650 a month could've gone to more important and adult things. live and learn.
