I wandered into the yard in August/September 2005 for the first time and it was fairly messed up even then, picked over by many vandals. It even looks like as if a Halloween party had been staged there - perhaps from October 2004 then?

Am I being mean when I question the use of such bold colours/combinations as purple and green? Yuck. The spider webs seem more authentic and historical LOL

ya that purple and green was my sisters idea. she also painted the front room blue and yellow, and accented the center moulding blue with gold spraypaint.
that kitchen was never really in working order for the last decade and a half. the water ran sometimes in the kitchen and we had a fridge there a few times but never was a real full blown kitchen.
those spiderwebs were from my last haloween party there in 2004. the party was kickass!
we had those webs everywhere. it was a big pain to put them up and to remove them, so we never bothered taking them down.
we mostly lived in the back half and only used the front for storage. but it was a great place for a party, and we also kept all our books out there. it was kinda like a spooky library.

The basment you were afraid to go in was crazy spooky. There were a few rectangular spots in the floor that were softer then the rest of the floor. On the west wall there was also dark stains running down it. It made me think that something/one had been chained there with the wrists spread and above them, and their wrists were cut. One evening a few of us went down to fix something and alot of strange things happened.. It just didn't feel right.

I have the exact same basement at my house, I didn't see anything wrong with it.

actually, the front area of my house and the staircase and the design of my house is the same as the trull manor house, I have some pictures (if i can find them) to prove it, it's a little weird.

ya the basement at 1913 baseline rd was very disturbing.

ya my dad said an old couple lived there when he moved into 1913 about 16 or so years ago. they moved shorty after, and the place has been empty ever since.
except for one night my sister ran away from home and slept there. other than than that one night it has remained uninhabited.
my dad went into the basement after the place was empty to see if he could borrow parts of the pump to repair ours. the pump was in bad shape, so it was no help to us.
i rode my bike past it about a million times as a kid. i tried to brake in onetime but it was pretty tight, and the neighbours called the fuzz, so i didnt bother going back. i dunno why. was just not that interested i guess. dammit hindsight is 20/20. i was pretty sure both homes would be protected and maybe even restored one day. it still really blows me away my old house is...gone.

It shows how little Durham Region cares about its past. I can't think of many places (ie : parks, wetlands) that aren't being turned into horrible sub-divisions. I live in an old house in Durham region and nobody else has this same house. Sure, my house is falling apart even after hours of my family repairing it, but it has a long history.

What can future generations learn from this? They can only look at these beautiful buildings in books and photographs. That's it, i'm moving to Kingston.

The house was amazing. The inside was in a state of bad disrepair, but the front half and two bottoms rooms were alright. The detail that went into the place when it was built was amazing. The quality just could not be matched. I honestly cannot believe that it could just be torn down like that. Something has got to be done about the regions disregard for historical buildings. The extremely sad thing is that is was still in alright shape. (considering the age and history) Alot of the decorative peices were also in awesome shape. They should have at least salvaged what they could and donated it to the museums. Bloody urban sprawl and modernization. My fathers house in AB was built in 1911, and was also quite cool. You can't find too many houses like it anymore, the walls were built with logs and insulated with straw, on top of that was clay then a material we called " battleship linoleum". It was very costly to renovate and the simpliest of tasks required so much effort. The treasures we would find from past tenents were amazing though. There was always some new discovery, woven around some old story.

Oh my GAWD

I haven't been here in a long time (obviously) but it brought me almost to tears reading this...

It is AWESOME that someone has finally posted their personal side of living in that house. It is absolutely incredibe, and I look forward to seeing those pictures of when people actually lived there!

I was WONDERING if any one knows if there are blue prints or other drawings of the house, or more detailed pictures of the structure that exist. My Dad and I have a five-year plan of buying some land and re-building that house (when we win the lottery of course!! Kidding, that is my goal for one day)

Anyway, if you'd like those pictures in full-size, PM me your e-mail address and I can send them to you... I don't know how to do that mouse-over blow up thing.

And THANK YOU EVERYONE.. for your support and everything. I appreciate it SO much!!

I use a program called "PUNCH SUPER HOME SUITE" that has a cool program for creating home blueprints. All you need to do is drag and drop shapes and enter lengths/widths, and it creates 3-D and 2-D versions of the building(s). You can even add in material textures, landscaping, etc.

Hey maybe I sound sentimental here Chevy, but why not go back and get one of the baby maple trees, or another plant from the Trull lot while its still there. Oh...and I finally took the time to piece together more history of the Trulls. Far too many were named "J Trull"... John, James, Jesse, etc LOL. And another sidenote is that there were TWO Lydia Trulls...the original John Trull who settled here was married to one, and one of his sons, John Casey Trull, also married a Lydia. This Lydia did not live very long (30s-40s max), and John Casey remarried. He and his new younger wife had more kids and yes, one was also named John Trull LOL. But the good news...Jesse Trull's home still exists on baseline and it is very old and cool as well. Plus there are a few more gems Im searching for with Trull backgrounds.

Hi,
I am new to this forum. I was searching for Trull and came across this discussion about Trull Manor.
I have been told that John W. and Lydia Casey Trull were my ancestors.
There is a website which shows where some of the Trull land was located in Darlington.
The page is at this address:

http://digital.lib...tyatlas/search.htm

If you search for "people" and then for "Trull" you will get a list of Trulls and the locations of their land.
If you look at the informatin for Jesse Trull you will see a portrait of him, and his wife, and their farm.

This Trull Manor is new to me and I am very sorry to hear it has been torn down.
