They're chipping it off brick-by-brick (for those of you who don't follow the Facebook group).

I got in last night, dressed in my finest, and with nothing but a cellphone for a flashlight. Not much has changed inside, but it looks like they're piling the scrap metal that was lying around into the auditorium and lobby.

Edit: I didn't fall through the floor this time.

y'know if the lyric can withstand having its walls chipped away brick-by-brick without collapsing it seems to me it can bloody well withstand being left alone long enough to stabilise the facade, but i guess a P.Eng degree trumps common sense.

It's not an issue whether or not the reinforcement of the facade is possible, it's a matter of time and public safety (and no doubt cost).

So yeah, a P.Eng degree does often trump common sense.

I was going to go in one last time earlier this week but my plans fell through and I've really regretted it since. I'm very happy to read that you made it in. I hope that somehow I will have another chance before the place is gone, but they seem to be working a bit quicker on it now... so I don't know. It also seems like they have some kind of security out front, which I'm not sure how to get around.

I want to spend a few hours in there to get off a bunch of last photos before theres nothing left. I've learned so many new things about the building in the last week and I want to see them in person.

Just because you can chip bricks away one by one in a part of the building does not mean you can do that in all parts of the building. And if any part of the building is structurally unsound, then it's generally safer to condemn the building.

Why? Because if the engineer who inspected doesn't and someone gets hurt or killed, that engineer is going to be put through the wringer by the politico's looking for a scapegoat.

That's the way it is with civil engineering... most engineers do know the common sense side, but with so much political influence in public civil engineering, they have to choose the option that doesn't have the potential to ruin everything they've worked for.

Also, off-topic and just fyi, there's no such thing as a P. Eng. degree. The P. Eng and the degree are separate things.

Just saw a report on the news and they will be chipping it away and once the top two floors are gone they will bring in heavier equipment. They expect to be finished some time next week.

I have been collection all of the news reports which I can post once everything is wrapped up if there is interest.

the lyric sign is exposed and ready to be taken down here. not sure where it will go, hopefully it wont sit in some city yard and get destroyed like the tivoli sign did.

im not going to post any more pictures of the theater until there's some major devvelopment. itd be nice if a better photographer came in and documented the progress a bit more artfully, but thats beyond my interest and skill level...

Well, documenting the demolition is definitely way past my skill level, but I just so happened to be walking by before work with my camera. So here's some pictures...

No, that's the Krusty the Clown poster. The bricks are just ornamental.
