| | | Posted by Jester I wear the low cut ones, so it's only a few clips, not as bad as Scarab's with the calf height...
|
Yeah, I used to wear the tall ones during training, but after a while the heel area would split at a seam, or the tabs would break off. I must've gone through like 4 or 5 pairs just from that one problem.

| | | Eh...I wear a pair of old cloth tabis, comfortable dark clothes and a cloak. Usually indoors, I noticed that sticking close to the walls will make less possibility for creaky flors. Btw, about the cloak, wouldn't recommend it less you're used to one...they can be bothersome (gets caught in something, throws off your balance, ect) S'got a lot of advantages though, too lazy to list them but you can use your imagination What was the initial post about again? I lost my train of thought.

| | | No, please; fill me in on the advantages to wearing a cloak...I just don't see the utility of it.

| | | ehm it depends on what you're doing at the moment...but for stealth, the biggest plus would be that it takes away from your human form. I made mine from a material that doesn't reflect light, it's kind of a faded black. just hunching down and covering your head in a spot with little light works. people walk right past you without a second glance

|
That is very importent, the human form is a thing that your eyes are very good at picking up, espeshally faces. The more this form can be broken up, made to look differnt then a human shape, the more effective yoiu will be camoflagued.

...actually....most will go through a meditative period...most are self-structred, but spiritual nonetheless. The reason being is that combat is intimidating, and while they all know their stuff...so does the enemy. Therefor, before combat they clear their minds of any fears or concerns so that they will preform better than the other guy...and live, which is a good habit.

| | | Yes, living is a great habit... one that I'm rather fond of, actually. Its one of my vices. But yeah, walking with a cloak, if you know exactly how to use it to your advantage, is a great thing. Hell, even just carring around a square of fabric that, if necessary, you can throw over your head and other distinguishing parts is a good thing. The cloak thing is basically a much-scaled down version of the ghillie suit (see other thread about them for full details) - but slightly more useful in some ways. That, and the fact that cloaks make you look cool. ^_^ footsteps light, flashlights bright -~ DT

| | | I apologize if someone has already mentioned this , but instead of combat boots, get yourself a pair of hi-tec magnums. Same boots as the police swat teams use. Most comfortable pair of boots I've ever owned. Available in steel toe, Gore, insulated, many variations. Very silent, yet tough. Don't get the low grade version, the leather is crap. Altima makes a similar boot mainly for the military, but I was never impressed with the fit. Great boot , takes a polish nicely. At one time Nike made a "tactical combat boot". Bottom line, they're all tough, light, quiet and black, so you can wear them with anything and you won't look like a lumberjack
I got your tour winner right here pussies, at least he'd crash out trying. |

| | | ...on the topic of boots...Adidas makes the GSG-9 boot...(after the German countrterror team)...the boot is simply a tennis shoe with ankle support...which I hear is quiet...the one drawback is their price.

| | | Also rock climbing shoes are really good. They are soft comfortable and the most important flexible. But people who ever stept on long rusty nail will know that it's not the best thing in majority of places Most of combat boots I saw are only good for mud and sand mixing. But also heard of comfortable soft, light ones. But had not much luck finding a good pair.

You ever try running in those? If you have a pair that fits properly, your toes are all pinched together (for the purpose of being able to use the strength of all your toes on a small point)

| | | I think stalker is probably talking about aproach shoes, which are more or less tennis shoes with really aggressive soles. Actual climbing shoes are smooth rubber and lace up like ballet shoes. Your entire foot is compressed tightly to be able to stand on ledges no wider than a nickel pasted to the wall. If you use climbing shoes for walking around in, they will wear out very fast. You only put them on right before you begin to climb. climbing shoe

| | | Stealth is of course very important. But you have an advantage when you are in abandoned buildings, you know that you can expect company and you are listing for it. The company on the other hand does not expect you. I stop regulary when I'm in a building to hear the noises but in a way that I'm hidden for view so nobody see you standing still in the middle of the corridor. The best things to avoid are walking on stuff like loose tiles or even worse, broken glass, if that crackes under you shoes then it can be heared quite well. Today I went to an abandoned hospital for TB patients and this place was a nightmare, broken glass everywere. So it was hard to move arround quitely. As always I wear a military outfit because people tend to be more "affraid" of the uniform. Another advantage is that if you are outside and there's a lot of bushes arround you are less likely to be spotted. One time I was exploring a site and I just got in and a policecar drove by, I was lucky since there were a lot of bushes out there and I just stopped moving. They just didn't see me, even if there were only 50 yard from me.

| | | When I'm on a property or in a building, I expect company to show up at anytime or be there already. If security comes in to look the place over, it's often for a reason (heard a noise, thought they saw a light, etc.). So both groups are likely to be on guard for others. It's the typical smashy smashy gimp that doesn't think about things like that.
