| | | Posted by Uncle Goose Stealth is of course very important. But you have an advantage when you are in abandoned buildings, you know that you can expect company and you are listing for it. The company on the other hand does not expect you. I stop regulary when I'm in a building to hear the noises but in a way that I'm hidden for view so nobody see you standing still in the middle of the corridor. The best things to avoid are walking on stuff like loose tiles or even worse, broken glass, if that crackes under you shoes then it can be heared quite well. Today I went to an abandoned hospital for TB patients and this place was a nightmare, broken glass everywere. So it was hard to move arround quitely. As always I wear a military outfit because people tend to be more "affraid" of the uniform. Another advantage is that if you are outside and there's a lot of bushes arround you are less likely to be spotted. One time I was exploring a site and I just got in and a policecar drove by, I was lucky since there were a lot of bushes out there and I just stopped moving. They just didn't see me, even if there were only 50 yard from me.

Interestingly I made exactly the same point in a different area of the forum, and I got told I was wrong. There definately is a certain way to walk quietly. If you've ever seen the game Splinter cell, that's pretty much the way I creep around. I got all my moves from watching how the character in that game moves, and it's really helped. TT.

| | | You learned stealth from a video game? Here are some other titles you should check out to expand your paramilitary skills; Any of the Rainbow Six titles (for sneaking and blowing up doors) Metal Gear Solid (for sneaking and blowing off heads) Call of Duty (for sneaking and killing nazis) Half-Life: Counter-Strike (for sneaking and rescuing hostages) Donkey Kong (for jumping over barrels thrown by gorillas) Check them out - you'll be glad you did. Posted by Jester I've only bought Tabi in person in Martial arts supply stores. They do need a good fit, so I like to be able to try them on... there are also variations of how thick/rigid the soles are, lowcut and calf-high styles, as well as different closures (velcro or clips). I pay about $50 canadian for a pair regardless of features.
|
The only ones I've ever found have those horrible little metal clips on them. (available @ Golden Arrow on Hastings) Where do you find the velcro ones?
|
OUCH! velcro? thats a pretty loud noise if i was really cool, i would go barefoot but im softcore like carmen electra

| | | Velcro is only noisy when you are opening it. Since I wouldn't be removing my footwear while hiding or trying to evade security... I doubt it would be an issue...

| | | Since this thread has gone so far off-topic already, I feel I can post this here with no problem. It sorta relates to the subject, though. Ueing in a group usually brings out some wannabe librarians. What I mean by that is the people who, when they hear any noise (no matter how innocuous) their immediate reaction is to put finger to lips and proceed to make the librarianesqe sound of shshshshsh - also known as 'shushing'(usually louder than the original sound being shushed). Now, maybe it's just me, but I think that if you were to hear a board creek or a twig snap followed by complete silence (as it's usually everyone's first instinct to freeze on spot) that would be a lot less conspicuous than hearing a board creek or a twig snap followed by one or more loud shushes. No matter how quiet everyone is trying to be, some sounds will be made. Being a wannabe librarian, however, will not help anyone be any quieter. Okay, I'm done ranting.
