Posted by RescueMe1060 I think Chris is inspiring. And Carine still takes trips out to the bus on occasion. I have a lot of respect for both of them

I read a follow-up article by Krakauer recently that said that Chris and his sister were both abused by their parents, the dad in particular. I'll see if I can find a link and post it.
I have mixed feelings about him. On the one hand, he did something we all would have liked to do: leave our lives behind, and go off on an epic adventure. But at the same time, I feel he did a lot of really foolish things that ultimately led to his death, plus a lot that just left me scratching my head. Like, why burn all his money? I understand he wanted to break with his past, but why not donate it? And the whole getting rid of his map thing.
Still, it was a great book. I love everything Jon Krakauer has written. I just finished
Where Men Win Glory, which is about the life and death of Pat Tillman. Another home run.
