| | | Posted by gambino Cool shot, how are you liking that car?
| it's growing on me... the gearbox absolutely fucking sucks. It's like they had leftover 6-speeds from the Cruze Eco (which has a really tall gear ratio) and tossed them in this car. It was like a bunch of GM engineers sat down and said "How can we filter ALL the fun out of this car so people will hate driving it?" Ah, yeah, put a stupid manual in it that will make people buy an automatic next time (facepalm) The mileage sucks for a car that size... my Cruze was getting 40-46mpg on the highway. The best I have ever managed with this car is around 36-38mpg. And the gas gauge is goofy as fuck. Other than that, the car is fun to drive on twisty roads, has a really competent suspension under it, but GM should've left rear disc brakes on the RS and RS Premier models. The drum brakes out back are meh. The interior is livable, stereo not bad, A/C meat locker quality. There are blind spots up the ying yang in that car, but you learn to live around them. I think it's a pretty good car... i have just about 55,000 miles on it so far. oh and the shot was taken on Ensign Pond Road on the Moriah side here in New York. Traffic is being detoured over it as County Route 6 is being rebuilt (otherwise known as Tracy Road). The state has decided to rebuild it as it is the most direct route from the Interstate to the Shock Incarceration Facility here in town. The county had to put up this sign because trucks really weren't aware of how tight and twisty this road was... it's a blast in a competent car.

mot people that aren't familiar with all things GM don't realize that the underpinnings of that car are T-body (front-Chevette) and A-body (rear-Celebrity).
| Front suspension came from the T-car, rear is an X-car (Citation X-11/Phoenix) front suspension + drivetrain moved to the rear axle with steering components locked down. They modified the cradle a little to accommodate the parking brake cable. That wheel gap is normal for the 14" wheels. Even on the GT's with the 15's the front has a ludicrously big gap, and it gets outright comical on the early base models that ran 13" steelies. I lowered my front 1" and went up a tire size all-around on the stock 15's, much better profile but getting hard to find replacement tires in that size. '88 is when they put in the suspension Pontiac originally wanted. Longer A-arms and shorter spindles up front, new steering rack to accommodate a very early electric steering mech that never went to production, redesigned rear cradle with a tri-link independent suspension. All got a rear sway bar, GT's/Formulas got a front bar as well. Brakes were also changed -- hard to get calipers for, now.

Looking forward to seeing y'all next season! Didn't get to go to as many races toward the end of the season as I would have liked, but glad to hear that the team kept up the good work. The enduro race was an absolute hoot. So much understeer. The handling on both my Olds and this Buick was surprisingly nimble, though, and the 3800 had power to spare. Just had to learn how to brake. I made it about 14 minutes into the race when I learned the hard way that 3-wide is the maximum at this track. Went right into the left rear of an Accord that was stalled at the top of the track. Neck protection saved me a hell of a lot of soreness afterwards. Sad end to the Buick, but now I know a few things for next year. https://i.imgur.com/nanXHxfh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/qSwGDAfh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/b4QYTKhh.jpg
| 14 minutes is a crazy amount of time in an enduro. Glad you had fun! We debated doing the one at Shadybowl but we already had too much going this month. Next year, perhaps. Thanks and hope to see you out there again next year.
| dsankt: In fact, the day I die yall are welcome to form an orderly queue and run a train on my eye sockets. I'll be dead and frankly, will not give a f*ck. budda: That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Fuck me sideways this is insane. ~~~~~~ Because it's Cincinnati |

| | | I've had this Bug since 2011, it had been through a lot when I got it (but had good bones) and I basically just patched it up to get it back on the road. In 2012, I ditched the bumpers, lowered it a fair bit which looked cool, and in 2015 I hit an unmarked raised manhole cover in a construction zone which stopped me dead, folded the front axle beam in half and tweaked the frame a fair bit. I'm happy to say "Annie" (named by the previous owner) is back with the living, sitting at stock ride height again (because roads suck here), and even has bumpers. And some cool Cosmic rims from the UK that came on a parts car I bought.
